Title Root 2, Guard/Wednesday 11:21-23
“And from the camp of the Philistines came a fighter, and his name was Goliath, a man of Gath, and his height was six cubits and a span, and he had a bronze helmet on his head, and a helmet on his body, and his armor weighed five thousand shekels of bronze. He had bronze helmets on his legs, and a bronze javelin between his shoulders, whose spear was like a loom, and the blade of his spear was six hundred shekels of iron, and the one carrying the shield went ahead (1 Samuel 17:4-7)
This is a description of Goliath, the enemy of Israel. This Goliath insults Israel and God with the following words:
"And he stood and cried out to the army of Israel, saying, "Why did you come out and fight me? I am not a Philistine and you are not Saul's servants. Choose one man and send him down to me. If he is able to fight and kill me, we will fight you. and if I overcome and kill him, then you will become our servants and serve us” (1 Samuel 17:8-9).” What did Israel do when they heard this?
“When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistines, they were astonished and were greatly afraid” (1 Samuel 17:11).
"Somehow, when he heard what David had said and told it to Saul, Saul summoned David. David said to Saul, "Let no man be discouraged because of him. Your servant will go and fight the Philistine." Saul said to David, "Go You will not be able to fight that Philistine, for you are a young man, and he has been a mighty man from his youth. David said to Saul, "When your servant is guarding his father's sheep, if a lion or a bear comes and robs the young from the flock, I will follow and strike them and out of their mouths. I rescued the young, and if it arose to harm me, I took the beard and struck it to death. Your servant has struck lions and bears; is it this uncircumcised Philistine who has insulted the armies of the living God? He will be like one of the beasts. And he said, "The LORD has delivered me from the claw of the lion and from the paw of the bear; he will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." Saul said to David, "Go, the LORD be with you." (1 Samuel 17:31-37)
"David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have insulted. Today the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you against your head. And I will give the corpses of the Philistine army today to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that this group may know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear. and he will deliver you into our hands” (1 Samuel 17:45-47).
The weakness of our faith is that it is too flimsy. What we need is why David had to appear in this case and why did he mobilize Saul and the Israelites as fearful extras. If it is our reality that we cannot get rid of it then and tremble now, we must get rid of it today in the same way. It is a battle of faith that is never proportional to the size of the exterior.
“At that time Joshua went and destroyed the Anakites from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. and only a few left in Ashdod (Joshua 11:21-22)."
It seems that there is nothing wrong with your spouse's lack of faith at the time of marriage. It is not so much of a problem now that children do not believe in God. However, if these roots are not corrected, they will eventually become Goliaths and come out with a sword and experience extreme pain. You must truly fear God. They should raise their children as husbands and wives who fear God. Goliath is growing well in the guard you left behind. It must be uprooted now.
“David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have insulted” (1 Samuel 17:45).
I come to you "in the name of the God of Israel, whom you insult." David insults the God who brought the ten plagues, parted the Red Sea, and performed all kinds of miracles, but David's blood flows backwards. The curse that Israel eats must be eaten by us today. And even today, we must go out in the name of "the God of Israel whom they insult." David trusted in God and went out and defeated Goliath. And let's look at the next sentence again.
“The Philistines were against Israel again, and David went down and fought with his servants. But David was weary, and Ishbibnob, who was carrying a bronze spear weighing three hundred shekels among the sons of the great man, and was armed with a new sword, was about to kill David. Abishai the son of Abishai helped David and killed the Philistine. David's servants swore to David, saying, "You shall not go out with us again to battle, and let the lamp of Israel go out." And after that, there was another war with the Philistines at Gob. At that time, Zippegai the Hushaite shoveled one of the sons of the great man, and again, in the war with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan the son of Jare Orchim the Bethlehemite slew Rahmi, the brother of Goliath of Gath, whose spear was a loom. Also, when the war was waged in Gath, there was a tall man there, with six on each hand and on each foot, with twenty-four, and he was also the offspring of a majestic man. He insulted the Israelites, so Jonathan the son of Shammah, David's brother, went to him. And these four men, the offspring of the great man of Gath, died by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants (2 Samuel 21:15-22).
