Title Root 1, Lyrics/Wed 11:21-23
Contents This record was written to 'set vigilance' for us.
“So Joshua took all the land, the hill country, and all the south, and all the land of Goshen, the plain, the Arabah, the mountainous region of Israel, and their plains, from Mount Halak, which goes up to Seir, down to Mount Hermon, down to Baal Gad in the Valley of Lebanon. They captured and struck down all the kings and killed them (Joshua 11:16-17).”
God commanded Joshua to lead the Israelites into the land of Canaan, annihilate all the natives of the land of Canaan, take the land, and make it Israel's inheritance. Joshua followed this command and defeated the tribes living in various parts of the land of Canaan. However, this war was not completely executed.
“At that time Joshua went and destroyed the Anakites in the hill country, in Hebron, in Debir, in Anab, in all the hill country of Judah, and in all the hill country of Israel. And there were only a few left in Ashdod. So Joshua took all the land, just as the LORD had spoken to Moses, and gave it as an inheritance according to the divisions of the tribes of Israel.
According to the above verse, it is said that Israel occupied most of the land of Canaan, leaving Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod. Today, we are going to trace the meaning of this Gaza of Joshua and the incident that left the Anakites in Gath and Ashdod. Today's lecture is titled 禍根.
If there is a difficult part in our life of faith, it is that God is different from us. God said my thoughts are different from yours. If God considers what is important to us as important, that person is a person who has reached a very high level in the religious life. However, most people do not know that God does not consider what is important to them and God does not consider what they consider trivial.
As Joshua said as he passed by here, he said, "They have all been destroyed. Only a few left in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod. It should be noted that although the descendants of Anak remain here, they do not stand in the way of the Israelites occupying the land of Canaan and maintaining peace. But God is not satisfied with that. Now, let's look at the following statement.
“Samson went to Gaza and saw a prostitute there, and he went in to him” (Judges 16:1).
Gaza is one of several Philistine cities. There Samson meets Delilah, a foreign woman. So, Samson, whom no one could resist, is finally caught, shaved, had his eyes pulled out, and is imprisoned in a historic land where he meets an unfortunate end. If Joshua had given the command to “take that city” with a single word in this verse, Samson would not have been needed in this future generation, and even he might not have had the unfortunate downfall of him. When we leave it, we leave it as a trivial matter, and there is a fear that it will grow to a place that eventually makes Israel tremble and swallows Israel's strongest worker.
Even if we did not have the zeal to sacrifice our children in the early days of our faith in Jesus, it did not interfere with our faith in Jesus. So, rather than training our children to believe in Jesus fervently and surrendering, I compromised and sent them away so that they could receive the blessings of the world now that I believed in Jesus. You should know that believing in Jesus means that I dedicate my life to the Lord, and if I don't do that, there will be household chores, Gath, and Ashdod in your household. We'll look at Gath and Ashdod next time, but it's terrifying to explain how tragic the embers they left behind. Why did these things happen? It is because there are residues of that temptation towards the world that we have not been able to pull out of ourselves. Believing in Jesus is not for the blessing of me and my family, but rather a commitment to 'use me for God's work'. We live by saying that we will be thankful if you give us blessings and that we will live with gratitude even in difficulties.
Let's recall the fact that General Gyebaek killed all his family and went out to fight for the sulfur bee, fearing that his heart would be shaken by the wives and wives he had left behind. If the mission of a soldier in charge of national defense is like that, then the spiritual soldier of God who is called as a man of God must do what God tells him to do if God tells him to suffer the misfortunes of his family.
It is at this point where the greatest disease of our believers is the housework that our believers have, where is Gath, and where is Ashdod. When I try to fill myself up and give out what's left, there's nothing. We need to compare where our faith tells us not to put everything we have, but where God is telling us to put it out. There is growth. "Annihilate them all!" It should be in color. Among the principles, methods, and goals of the faith that I have in me, what God requires and the method is correct every day.
