Jonah 0101-16

1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it.

for their wickedness has come up before me.”

3 But Jonah arose to flee from the presence of the LORD, and fled to Tarshish.

When they went down to Joppa, they found a ship going to Tarshish.

4 The LORD sent a great wind over the sea, and there was a great storm in the middle of the sea.

My stomach almost broke.

5 The sailors were afraid, and each called on his own god, and tried to lighten the boat.

They threw the thing in the middle of it into the sea, but Jonah went down to the bottom of the boat.

Lay down and fall asleep

6 The captain went out and said to him, "What are you doing, you sleeping?

Rise up and ask your God

Which nation did you belong to?

9 He answered, I am a Hebrew, who made the sea and the dry land.

who fear the LORD, the God of heaven,

10 The crowd knew that he was hiding from the Lord, so

They were very afraid and said, "Why have you done this?

11 And the sea became more and more violent, and the crowd said to him, What shall we do with you?

Will the sea be calm for us?

12 He answered, Lift me up and throw me into the sea, and the sea will be for you.

It will be calm. I know that it is because of me that you met this great storm.”

13 But the men labored to row the boat to land,

The sea became more and more abusive toward them, and they could not

14 And the crowd cried out to the LORD, saying, O LORD, I beg you, I beg you.

Do not destroy us for this man's life.

do not shed innocent blood on us

Sovereign LORD, you do your will.

15 And he picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea, and immediately the roaring of the sea ceased.

16 The men feared the LORD greatly, and offered sacrifices to the LORD and made vows.
