Mark 5:35-43
running
The shock of serial killings, which I do not want to believe, has once again struck our society. We have lost the concept of community through rapid industrialization. As families disintegrate and authority crumbles, the bonds that hold individuals together as members of a group are lost. All values are gone and only money has become the most important value. An atmosphere has been created that any action is okay to make money. This social atmosphere produced people with an antisocial personality disorder called psychopaths and created serial killers. But what's more serious is that there are a lot of psychopaths with this personality disorder around us, so more crimes against humanity like this can happen in the future.
Only Jesus can heal this sick society and heal the sick. Modern man is not hungry, but hungry for Jesus. It is not being able to get out of the abyss of despair because we cannot meet Jesus. They are suffering because they have not met Jesus. Only Jesus can heal the sick today. Meeting Jesus is the only remedy that can heal sick modern people.
This text testifies to the miracle of the resurrection of a 12-year-old girl. Death does not discriminate between men and women, regardless of age or rank. Humans die only when they grow old, and it is a child, and being rich or powerful does not mean that the messenger of death will evade. Death swallows not only the old, but also the young and the young. Jesus came to the scene of the death of a 12-year-old girl. And he said to Juk-eom, “Dalidagum.” “Talidagum” is an Aramaic word used by the Jews at the time of Jesus. This 'run dagum' is a combination of the words 'run' and 'goom', which means 'little child', 'Gum' means 'get up'. Therefore, 'Daladigum' means 'child, get up'. When Jesus said, “Child, get up,” the dead girl jumped up.
Death, that's another name for despair. The age we live in today is an age of despair filled with the culture of death and the energy of death. The world is suffering from an economic crisis. However, Koreans seem to take this economic crisis too easy. Now is not the time to be divided. This is not the time for labor and management to fight. It's time to join forces. No, it is a difficult time even if we gather our strength. The global economic crisis has plunged mankind into a crisis of despair and death. You can see that there are too many people around the world who have lost hope and have not even had the energy to stand up again, so they are sitting down without being able to get out of a state of despair.
However, it is not money that can save modern people from the swamp of despair. We used to live happily even when we were poorer and needy than we are now. Abundance is not an absolute factor of happiness. Modern man must experience the miracle of resurrection from death and despair. What modern people really need is the miracle of resurrection and the miracle of life. What modern people who are dying of death need to hear is the voice of Jesus, who is the resurrection and the life. It is the voice of Jesus, “Talidagum” and “Child, get up.” Dear brothers and sisters, I hope that you will come to us in despair and hear the voice of Jesus who says, “Get up.” And please rise from the seat of despair. Please rise from the dead.
I hope that you will become a saint who reproduces the miracle of resurrection recorded in the text in my life today. How can I reproduce that miracle of resurrection in my life?
1. First, we can reproduce the miracle of the resurrection only when we come out with Jesus.
Let's read Matthew 5:22-23 together. “One of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus, came and saw Jesus, and fell at his feet and begged him earnestly, “My little daughter is about to die.
In fact, the story of the text begins with verse 21. In the middle of the text that begins in verse 21, there is an incident where a woman who had suffered from bleeding for 12 years was healed by Jesus, and it continues with verse 35 again.
You can see a synagogue leader named Jairus who came to Jesus at the seashore and fell at his feet, earnestly begging, “My little daughter is about to die; come and lay your hands on her so that she may be saved and live.” A synagogue leader is a person in high position who is in charge of the synagogue. The word ‘synagogue’ is ‘sunagoge’ in Greek, and it was the central institution in the lives of the people of Israel. Therefore, the leader of the synagogue took on the role of a teacher and even a judge. So the synagogue leader was followed by social honor and respect. About 10 officials were assigned to each synagogue, and in large synagogues, three synagogue leaders were assigned. It was by no means an easy decision for a person with this level of status to come to Jesus, who is called “the friend of tax collectors and sinners.”
But he came before Jesus and fell at his feet. Falling down at the feet of others is never easy. Recognized and respected by the people, he bowed his knees to the humble man, the son of a carpenter from Galilee. It is not easy for a person of this level of social standing to bow down before Jesus. But his problems made him kneel on Jesus. My beloved daughter was dying. He must have made every effort to save his daughter. But all efforts were in vain. Neither his money, his status nor his fame could stop his beloved daughter on the road to death. Now, the last hope, the last hope, had to be placed on Jesus. That being said, the pain experienced in life is not necessarily a bad thing. If it had not been for this synagogue leader's dilemma of suffering caused by his beloved daughter, he would never have appeared before Jesus.
There is a black jazz pianist named Tatum, Art. He was born blind in one eye and was born with 25 percent visual acuity in the other. One day he heard a piano in church and was fascinated and started learning the piano. At first he learned to play the piano by playing the automatic piano. However, the automatic piano was so fast that I practiced bleeding and finally played it like an automatic piano. But the automatic piano was not played by one person, but by two people. Datum was invisible, so he did not know that the autopiano was played by two people, so he followed closely. So he amazed people with his incredible technique. The nickname 'the god of the jazz piano' was earned because he was a blind man who could not see.
If there were no suffering among the saints sitting here, if there were no hardships in life, if it had not been for rain and wind and storms, there would have been many saints who would not have appeared before Jesus. That's why C. S. Lewis said, "A God who comes to you in disguise for suffering." That's right. Suffering and despair made this synagogue leader humble. So, despite his social status and status, he knelt before Jesus of Nazareth.
He got down on his knees and begged. He asked for it, but he did not ask for it in an appropriate way by saying that it must or must not be done. In the original Bible, it is written as 'Para Karei Auton Polar Legon', where the word 'Pola' means a large amount or a large thing. So, among the English Bibles, the KJV translated “him greatly, saying” and “I asked for it earnestly”, the NIV Bible said “earnestly with him” and “I sought it with all my heart”, and the NLT Bible said “he said in desperation.” Translated as ‘desperately saved’. There is nothing to do in moderation. If you study properly, you cannot become an honor student. If you do the right thing, you cannot succeed. Whatever you do, you must sacrifice your life. must go crazy
If you pray with the mindset of ‘Give it, receive it, or not,’ God will not listen. How did Esther pray? Esther asked Mordecai: “Hurry, gather all the Jews in Susa together. And think of me, and pray for fasting for three days and nights without eating or drinking. I will also offer a fasting prayer with the maids. After that, even if you break the law, I will go out to meet you. And when I die, I will die willingly.” “If I die, I will die willingly.” This is Esther's prayer, who saved the Jews from the crisis. Jesus prayed so earnestly that his sweat became like drops of blood and fell to the ground (Luke 22:44).
Face culture is the biggest obstacle that prevents Koreans from coming to Jesus and receiving grace. There is no other nation on the planet that is as sensitive as the Koreans. So, there are many words related to faces in Korean language. 'I have no face to see.' 'I can't stand my face.' 'I can't lift my face.' 'That person's face is once wide.' .' 'Looking at my face, please do it once.' Even today, there are many people who cannot come to Jesus because of their face despite the pressing problems of life.
Do you want to experience the miracle of the resurrection? Then, like Esther, I hope that you will cling to it, saying, ‘If I die, I will die. Do you want to receive grace? If so, please pray so that sweat becomes blood like Jesus did. Do you want to experience the miracle of life? If so, please pray as desperately as Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. Only when you come to Jesus with your problems can you reproduce the miracle of the resurrection in your life.
2. Second, even if the problem has not been solved yet, we must walk with Jesus.
Read verse 24 of the text. “Then he went with him, and a great crowd followed him around and pushed him.” Amen.
Not all prayers are answered right away. There are many ways God responds. God sometimes answers our prayers immediately. But sometimes you wait a long time before giving. And to some prayers, you say ‘No’. We don't know why God responds that way, but what is clear is that God responds to us with a clear purpose. Therefore, even if the problem has not been solved yet, we must walk with the Lord.
Hearing the prayers of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue, Jesus went to his house to heal his daughter, but people surrounded and pushed him. My daughter is dying. One cigar is urgent. You have to go fast. If you are late, your daughter may die. But people are blocking the way. A bigger problem is that a woman suddenly appears and stops Jesus on his way. Every second is urgent, but people block the way ahead, and a woman stops Jesus from walking.
In this way, many obstacles hinder our prayer life until our prayers are answered. In particular, when we try to receive grace, Satan always sets a snare in front of us and hinders our graceful life. It interferes with your prayer life. I decided to pray in the morning and I am going to bed early, but a close friend or relative visits me late at night. I made a resolution to go on Holy Order Sunday, but they said that I would make a big business contract on Sunday. I am trying to live according to the words of the Bible, but my parents and children raise problems. Dear saints, what obstacles have you stumbled upon? You have to jump over that obstacle. The saints who do not grow in their faith just stumble over the problem. As long as we do not overcome that problem, we cannot expect the maturity of our faith.
The leader of the synagogue goes home with the Lord with the hope that his daughter will be healed.
