The text tells the disciples in parables about the people who are invited to a certain meal, who are trembling to make repairs to choose a table. Also, Jesus teaches this parable because it is a very important and essential lesson for Christians who will become disciples of Jesus.

Religious ethics for disciples

The first is to “do not sit at the top”. Most Jewish tables have a   shape. So, the owner sits in the middle, and the seats on both sides of the owner become the head. The top seat is decided by the owner. Some meetings even allocate seats and write names on them. If not, you sit at the end of the day, and when the owner comes and gives you a seat, you go and sit down. Also, because wherever you are truly tall, you will eventually show up. And he tells us not to sit at the top table because pride will come upon us as soon as we sit on the top table.

Second, why did they sit at the top? Because they want to be treated. Because they think they are high and sit at the top of the table, their authority and honor will be revealed and they will be respected by others.

Third, he says, “Sit at the end of the table.” The Pharisees and Jewish religious leaders liked to be greeted in markets and synagogues, and they took pride in sitting on high seats at feasts and boasting of their status and learning. But the teaching of Jesus is the opposite. It shines even brighter when you sit on the edge of the chair and go upstairs. Faith is to serve, not to be served.

Lessons from giving up your seat and sitting at the end

To learn the humiliation of Jesus Christ. Proverbs 18:20 says, "The pride of a man's heart precedes destruction, but humility precedes honor." Also, James 4:10 says, “Humble before the Lord, and the Lord will exalt you.” A low position is a place where you can truly learn about the Lord.

It is saying that the feast of the kingdom of God belongs to the humble. If you sit on a high seat, you have actually crossed the waters to serve. Jesus tells us to forsake ourselves and follow Jesus.

Saints are those who are invited to the kingdom of God

We must always work in a service of service. We must give the Lord a high place and serve with a low attitude. All saints should not sit at the top of the church of God. He raised unclean sinners, raised dead souls, and washed away sins like scarlet and crimson. You must fall at the feet of Jesus.
