Title Second Ode/2:1-22
Contents 2 Chapters
The prophet speaks of the punishment that came upon Jerusalem as a result of sin
1. The Lord has become like an enemy (verses 1-9)
“Alas, how wrathful the Lord is” (verse 1).
Now, God is no longer the God who protects Judah, but has turned into Judah's most feared enemy.
These conditions were: 1. The strong city fell (verse 2).
2. All the horns of Israel were cut off (verse 3).
3. The beautiful was slaughtered (verse 4)
4. He made the city and wall weeping (verse 8).
The state of the nation that has been disciplined by God is clearly expressed in “The gates are buried in the ground, the bars are broken and broken, the kings and princes are among the nations without the law, and their prophets have no vision from the Lord” (verse 9).
2. There is a fear of famine (verses 10-13)
“Where is the grain and the wine?” (verse 12).
The miserable condition of the little children (vv. 11-12) appears again in vv. 19-21.
Their judgment was so severe that they bowed their heads to the ground (verse 10) and their eyes were broken by tears (verse 11), and they wander around the city confused like a strange person.
Add to this the fear of famine, creating a terrifying atmosphere.
3. There is the attitude of the prophets (verses 14-17)
“Because the four prophets have seen vain and foolish visions of you” (verse 14).
This prophet refers to the prophets remaining in Judah, not Jeremiah or Ezekiel, who are now supposed to be in Egypt or Babylon.
The distinction of a prophet is simple.
False prophets claim “vain and foolish visions” (verse 14).
The true prophet asserts that he “does what the Lord has ordained” (v. 17).
This distinction is always present regardless of the age
4. There is a petition for help (vv. 18-22)
“Arise at the beginning of the night and cry” (verse 19).
This is the attitude of prayer when faced with difficult times
The Hebrews divided the night into three views.
Menarche is usually the time before 11 p.m. The posture of prayer is a prayer that mourns “as water is poured out before the face of the Lord” (verse 19).
The content of this prayer is found in verses 20-22 The passion and fervor of prayer is clearly demonstrated here.
