11. His beer (2:5-8)
Paul urges us to walk with a humble attitude of humility, service, and loyalty, like the heart of Christ.
1. The heart of Christ Jesus (verse 5)
① Humility as the attitude of Christ
‘Have this mind’ = Think of this mind. / Means to be humble toward one another with the same attitude that Jesus had among you.
(Matthew 11:29) “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and your hearts will be rested.”
(Matthew 9:36) “When he saw the crowds, he was moved with compassion, for they were troubled and lost, like sheep without a shepherd.”
2. Christ with the heart of a servant (verses 6, 7)
① Christ, who is the essence of God, teaches humility through the humiliation of Christ.
(John 1:3) “All things were made through him, and without him nothing was made that was made.”
(Micah 5:2) “Ephrathah, Bethlehem, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are of ancient times.”
② Christ in the form of a servant = Jesus’ incarnation as a sinner was a complete self-sacrifice and renunciation of rights and privileges.
(Isa 53:11) “He said, ‘He will see the toil of his soul, and he will be satisfied.
3. Christ with a heart of allegiance (v. 8)
It was obedience according to the Father's plan of redemption that, according to the Father's will, he abandoned the throne of heaven, took on human form and humbled himself until he was put to death on the cross.
① Christ who was obedient to the point of death
(Hebrews 10:7) “Then I said, Behold, God, I have come to do your will, as it is written of me in the scroll.”
(Matthew 26:39) “Going a little farther, and with his face to the ground, he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; but not as I will, but as you will.”
② Christ who died on the cross after showing the example of loyalty = He showed the example of the faithfulness of the relationship between Christ and the saints, just as he obeyed the will of the Father until he died.
(1 Peter 2:24) “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live to righteousness. By his wounds you are healed.”
