Bible: Psalm 107:10-22
Title: Send the Word
In Psalm 107, the psalmist shows what kind of punishment will come upon those who turn away from the Word of God.
In verses 10-11, it says, "Man sits in darkness and in the shadow of death, and is bound with affliction and chains, because he disobeys the word of God and despises the will of the Most High." that it will go
In verses 17-18, it says, "Fools are afflicted because of their transgression and iniquity, and their soul hates every kind of food, and is near the door of death." You will get sick, you will not be able to eat, and you will eventually die.
In verse 34, it says, “Because of the wickedness of the inhabitants, he made the fertile soil a field of salt.” Because of the wickedness of the people living in that land, nature is damaged, and the earth turns into soil and becomes a salt field.
Verse 39 says, “Because of oppression, trouble, and affliction, they are reduced to humiliation.” This means that those who persecute and oppress others will eventually be oppressed and despised as a result of their retribution.
In other words, because of the sins people commit, they will lose wars, become siege, get sick and die, the land will be stripped, and they will be judged.
This proves concretely that "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).
We notice two things in this verse.
First, earnest prayer
Second, prayers are answered and healed.
1. Let's look at earnest prayer.
Verse 19, “Then they cried out to the Lord in their troubles” means earnest prayer.
The same phrase is found in verses 6 and 13: "Then they cried out to the LORD in their distress."
Through these verses, we discover the following facts.
1) It is the fact that even beings who have sinned and perish can pray to God.
In other words, even sinners can approach God and meet God. However, it is possible when you wear the clothes of repentance.
2) It is the fact that God pays great attention to even sinful human beings.
It is inaccessible to an indifferent person. But because our God cares so much for us, it is accessible, prayer is possible, and encounter is possible.
But more important is the mindset and faith of those who pray that God will forgive their sins and heal them.
In other words, what kind of person do you believe in God is?
When we pray to God, there are certain things that must be presupposed and established. They are “the existence of God” and “the power of God.”
In other words, it is important to believe that God lives and that God has power. Without this faith, prayer is one thing.
In particular, the above verses say, “I cried out.” It means that they prayed positively and earnestly.
Anyone can pray. But not everyone gets answers.
Only those who believe in God's existence and His power and cry out will receive answers.
2. Let's think about God's answer.
Verse 6 says, "He cried out, and he delivered them from their suffering." In verses 13 and 19, it says, "When he cried out, He saved them from their suffering." Said.
We find here that God's answer is concrete and real.
If you pray, but the answer is vague or not concrete, it has no meaning. However, God's answer is accurate and specific.
The text says that the way to deliver us from suffering is by “sending the word”. “Sending the word” means “by the word”, “by the word”, and “come through the word”.
God sent His Word to do the following work.
1) He created the heavens and the earth.
John 1:1-3 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. There is nothing,” he said.
In Genesis 1:3, it says, "God said, Let there be light, and there was light."
Jesus Christ is the Word and the One who speaks. The Word had the power to say, "Let there be," and the light, heaven and earth were created.
2) He came in the flesh.
John 1:14 says, "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us." In theology, this is called "Incarnation."
What is important is why the Word became flesh.
Jesus came close to us in the flesh to save us, lived and died.
John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” It is not that he is far away, but that he is right among us.
In other words, He shares time with us moment by moment, shares pain and sorrow with us, and atones for our sins.
Now, countries joining the European Community (E.C.) are rushing to make various preparations for a communal life that will begin in the 1990s.
For example, among E.C. countries, all certificates are unified by an individual, such as a car's license, medical insurance card, passport, and credit card.
It also unifies banking transactions, product purchases, and payment settlements into one.
It literally means being a community.
Parties view this idea as a self-help measure to rebuild Europe's declining economic and political capacity, while other countries see it as a threat and challenge.
However, there is a stronger power than the united E.C. It is the Word becoming flesh and uniting with God who dwells among us.
In other words, it is to create a community with God, because only then can we be saved and exert great power.
3) You fixed it.
Psalm 107:20 says, "He sends his word, and heals them, and delivers them from the scourge."
Matthew 8:5-13 tells the story of a Roman officer who was sent out to the Jewish country.
He was a centurion. He came to Jesus and begged him to heal his dying servant. The Lord said, "I will go and heal you." He said, "I will go and heal you." But he said, "Only say the word, and my servant will be healed." age," he said.
The reason was that he believed that his servant would be healed with just one word from the Lord, just as in the military society, if you give a command, everything will proceed.
The Lord said, “It shall be done according to thy faith.” Immediately his servant was healed.
We discover the healing power of the word in the poet's confession that he heals by sending the word and in the centurion's confession that he believes that his servant will be healed just by saying the word.
Through the Gospels, we discover the many healing ministries that the Lord performed, and also the methods of healing.
In some cases, it was healed by touching it. In some cases, it was healed by touching it. However, in most cases, it was healed by speaking.
Because the Lord is the Word itself and the One who speaks, and the Word has the power to heal.
From that point of view, it is a false belief and teaching that people must lay the hands on their hands to be healed, and that they can be healed only when they put their hands on the eyes.
It is said that God sends the Word to heal and deliver us from misfortune. Therefore, even today, anyone who meets and hears the word can be healed and overcome adversity anytime, anywhere.
The Word heals us.
4) You gave me satisfaction.
Psalm 107:9 says, "He satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry with good things", verse 35 says, "He makes the dry land a spring of water."
What we get after believing in Jesus and receiving the forgiveness of sins is peace. Peace means true satisfaction and spiritual abundance.
Now the world is rolling with a mixture of abundance and poverty.
Our country is currently suffering from the epidemic of "overconsumption", but around the world 28 people are dying of hunger every minute (21 of them are young children). Therefore, 1,680 people per hour, 40,000 people per day, and 40,000 people per day are dying of hunger in one year. 15 million people are starving to death.
Is that all? Hungry souls, countless souls, are dying in the trap of sin and dying from poison that should not be eaten. Our children and youth are among them.
We have a duty to share and eat. We must share money, rice, briquettes, wood, clothes, love, and peace.
The Lord came to this world as a word to share. And He gave us so much peace, who lived without knowing what peace was.
The Lord, who came as the Word, commands us to share in love, peace, and possessions.
Lord, who came through your Word, bring salvation and peace in our times and in our souls.
