Siloam (John 9:1-7)
< Text >
(John 9:1) As Jesus was going on the way, he saw a man blind from birth.
(John 9:2) The disciples asked him, and said, Rabbi, whose sin is it that this man was born blind, or his or his parents?
(John 9:3) Jesus answered, Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God might be revealed in him.
(John 9:4) While it is still daytime, we must do the work of him who sent me; and the night is coming, and then no one can work.
(John 9:5) As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
(John 9:6) When he had said these things, he spit on the ground, made mud, and put it on his eyes.
(John 9:7) Then he said to them, "Go and wash in the pool of Siloam." (Siloam literally means sent) So he went and washed, and came with bright eyes.

Please pray for our country and people.
The North Korean nuclear issue is in tension between the United States, Korea and North Korea, and difficult situations such as the Daegu subway disaster are facing the country and the people. In such a time, we ask you to pray first, a prayer of thorough repentance, and second, that those who have suffered may be healed and restored in the Lord.
In today's text, while Jesus was passing by with his disciples, the disciples saw a man who had been blind from birth and asked Jesus whether the man's suffering was due to the sins of his parents or the sin of his parents. At this time, Jesus said that it was to show what God was doing, made mud, put it on his eyes, and commanded him to go to "Siloam" and wash. At this time, the blind man obeyed the word and his eyes were opened. Through these words, I will tell you two things.
First, he commands them to go to Siloam.
If you go out through the east gate of the wall of Jerusalem, there is a "Spring of Gihon". Siloam means to be humbled. You also need to lower your posture to wash those eyes. I have to get down on my knees.
Jesus is saying that in order to meet Jesus, it is possible to go to the lowest place and take a low posture.
We who are in the air can live only by breathing, and just as a fish can live by drinking water from the water, He is fully present among us, and if we do not breathe with the present God, we cannot live. In this way, we can meet God only when we have the thirst to meet God. Because people have a sinful nature, it is difficult to meet God when they are elevated.
The great king of Israel, David, maintained his relationship with God when he was humbled. When Saul tried to kill him, when the Philistines recognized him and tried to kill him, he was completely humbled and was in a relationship with God. However, when he became king and became exalted, he took Uriah's wife and showed his sinful nature to kill Uriah.
Why do we have to humble ourselves to meet Jesus? Because Jesus is in the high places, but he is also in the low places.
Jesus was born in a manger in the lowest place. He lived in the lowest places of Nazareth in Galilee. He died by crucifixion.
The Lord is all around us. We cannot meet the Lord unless we are elevated and our self is not broken. When we are low, we can meet the Lord when we are thirsty in it. So the Lord said to go and wash in "siloam," which means to be humbled.
Second, to humble means "to serve."
Matthew 20:28 "For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many."
Jesus came to serve in the lowly places. Are you in a miserable place? Then, fall on your face before Jesus. Jesus was born in a horse manger, wore a crown of thorns, was speared in his side, was beaten 39 times, and died on the cross, pouring out a drop of blood and a drop of water. He was completely in a low place and looked miserable. He was in more suffering than that to understand and serve our suffering. Only those who have a heart to serve others can meet Jesus.
We must walk with the right life of Jesus and the life of service. If you have received grace, please serve in your life. We believe that the Lord will be glorified when we emit the fragrance of Christ while serving in our lives.
Siloam Jerusalem's lowest spring There, when he got down on his knees, his eyes were opened and he spoke about the blind man who met Jesus.
Jesus came to serve us in the lowest form. But we keep trying to get higher. With the help of the Lord, let us humble ourselves to serve, and as the Lord said that we must do the work of the one who sent me because it is still daytime, so that we can live uprightly, holy, and purely in the life we have been given. May you receive guidance from
Although this country is a priestly nation chosen by God, it is full of many sins and covered with many sexual immorality and greed. Worship and life are not connected. Before the night comes, before the love of God is cut off, before the Holy Spirit leaves, I hope that you will repent and live with an upright and serving heart. Amen
