To explain the text, when Paul heard the wrong news from the church in Corinth, he wrote a letter with tears in his eyes and sent it through Titus, but he was very anxious because he could not meet Titus, whom he had planned to meet in Troas.
First, the safety issue of Dido
My heart ached because of the tearful letter I sent to the second Corinthians.
So, when Paul knew that the door of the gospel had been opened in Traas, he immediately came to Macedonia, where he met Titus thankfully. According to Titus' report, the church in Corinth received Paul's letter of tears and did not enter into temptation and reflected deeply. I was happy and comforted.
The smell of knowing Christ (verse 14).
What is the smell of knowing Christ? First, it means that the knowledge of Jesus Christ spreads deep and wide, and secondly, it means that we can overcome in Christ. Therefore, “smell” is an important tool for making ourselves known.
The fragrance of Christ (verse 15).
The text is a metaphor for what Paul was doing in Rome at that time. In Rome, the triumphal procession returning from war first goes to the Temple of Jupiter on Capitoliuns and burns incense. By smelling the incense without seeing it, he knew that Rome had won a great victory. God takes in the prayers of the saints with a beautiful fragrance.
Paul called this the smell of life and death.
The smell of Jesus Christ manifests itself in two ways. For some it is death, for others it is life.
The cross that leads to death for those who are not saved.
The cross that leads to life for those who have been saved.
Our smell should be the smell of life that saves people. If you have the fragrance of Christ, you can save life.
The saints must overcome the world and live when the scent of knowing Jesus Christ is abundant, and when the fragrance of Jesus is spread in the world, the joy of life overflows.
Dear saints, As Jesus Christ was, let us become a fragrance, a life-giving fragrance.
