I. The Biblical Command
{He said to me. Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me. They and their fathers have sinned against me to this very day. They are shameless and hard-hearted offspring. I am sending you to them, and you will say to them, "Thus saith the Lord God." do it. Whether they listen or stop (for they are a rebellious house), they will know that the Prophet is among them. ○ Son of man, if briers and thorns are with you, and you dwell among scorpions, do not fear them, nor their words. They are a rebellious house, but do not be afraid of their words, nor be amazed by their appearance. Whether they listen or stop, you shall tell them my words, for they are the best in rebellion.} (Ezekiel 2:3-7)
1. command
The message of the Lord to Jeremiah (Jer 11:6), Ezekiel (Ezekiel 2:1-7, 3-33), Isaiah (Isa 58) Jonah, Noah, Peter and the other disciples (Mark 16:15) It was to be preached publicly. Finally, this command was the same for Paul (Acts 9:15, 23:11) and Timothy (2 Timothy 4:2), who are models of New Testament ministry. Ezra (Esra 10:9, Neh 8:1-5), Stephan, and Jesus Christ - the Lord was the supreme street preacher. - He did it himself. Therefore, every preacher who is "called of God" should say, "Call aloud without sparing, and lift up your voice like a trumpet." publicly too.
2. Current situation
You may have a negative thought that street sermons standing in the middle of the road and raising your voice may cause people to reject and reject the gospel rather than accept it. Worrying about this rejection can be easily solved by examining how many people have accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ. The number of people saved each year through street sermons is about the same. Although computers are highly developed and we live in the age of satellites through radio and television, the truth of the gospel is still rejected by many and accepted by very few. Even if some great and smart person diligently wraps up the gospel, decorates it well, and preaches it, the result is the same.
Noah had a similar problem, but he preached faithfully. Although Jonah initially rebelled, he reaped much fruit. Even if his efforts seemed insignificant.
She vomited out God's message, but the response was cold.
{But they refused to listen; they shrugged their shoulders and covered their ears, so that they would not hear.}
In my opinion, Ezekiel would be the strongest contender if there was an award given to street preachers who faithfully proclaimed God's Word. Because the Lord had foretold that no matter how much he told them, the people would not listen, they would be a rebellious house, and they would hate Ezekiel, his message, and God. But he shouted in the street. "Thus says the Lord God." So they knew that there was a prophet among them (Ezekiel 2:4-5).
Should street preaching be stopped because few people hear it? Should we find a more sophisticated and appealing way to preach in the street? In a more plausible way, a more sophisticated way of evangelism, or a more appealing way, could the Lord command “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature”?
I have experienced that street preaching balances every minister and his preaching. When Paul preached the gospel to everyone living in Ephesus (the city at that time had about 300,000 people) for three years, he chose a method that today's ministers would find hard to believe. He was not preaching on the radio or on TV. Not through the newspapers, on the bus or on the subway, not through sermon tapes or in a one-on-one approach. The evangelism method he chose was “publicly, house to house.”
His public evangelism activities have a great influence on the local church and members to which he belongs. A sermon master who had only preached street sermons for 40 years said this. "Street sermons will allow you to think correctly on your own."
If this ministry presented in the Bible was just what they said it was, if the work of Savonarola, Luther, Calvin, Whitefield, Wesley, Booth, Sunday, and Frank Norris was just that level and level, maybe you too. At this moment, you will need to seriously consider the benefits of street preaching and public witnessing the gospel.
