[Sturdy and strong anchor] Hebrews 2:1-4. 2007. 10. 14. Sunday Worship
1) There is a saying called “Bupyeong Elementary Life”. It is a metaphor for a person who seems to be drifting here and there, pushed to and fro by three groups without firm beliefs or subjectivity, to Bupyeongcho. Just like the feeling of that word, the book of Hebrews today's Bible tells us not to let our lives flow away like bupyeongcho. In the river of time, sepha means not to be pushed to and fro in the sea, but to stand firm in the place where there is a sure sign and not to be shaken.
2) A ship going on the sea needs three things to move. Anchor, sail and rudder. Among them, the sail and rudder are used to propel forward. The sail catches the wind and propels the ship forward, turning the rudder left and right to switch. Conversely, an anchor stops an outgoing ship or a moving ship. When a ship arrives at the port, it is the first to drop anchor.
If our soul is like a sailing ship, it is important for this soul to be deeply rooted in the Word so that it does not drift away and to sail better. The anchor that stops shaking, today's Bible calls us the anchor of the soul. Just as we need an anchor to hold a ship firmly from moving, the Word is the anchor of our souls as in Hebrews 6:19, and is like the sharp double-edged sword mentioned in Hebrews 4:12.
3) The characteristic of the era we live in is an era in which we manage ourselves and take responsibility for ourselves. Whatever you do, you have to do it yourself, and this is not the time for others to do my work. Even if you run a business, you have to manage it well by yourself, and if you invest well, you have to differentiate it well. It is also important to know how to save money in a bank. In the past, a high interest rate was guaranteed just by saving money, but these days, it is necessary to carefully monitor how much interest is paid, whether there is a risk of losing the principal, or whether the bank is insolvent and not able to receive the principal. Such management is the investor's self-management. In the same way, today's Bible tells us that our members should take good care of their own spirituality so that we do not become those who are carried away by the great turbulence that tests us, but anchor firmly in the word we have heard and receive eternal blessings as confident believers. It is said.
1. Hebrews 2:1, Therefore, be more earnestly heeding all that you have heard.
The words to our believers who are like a loaf being tossed to and fro in the face of the storms of the world and the great waves of the sea, this is a request to “be convinced of what you have heard and be careful not to be shaken, using it as an anchor for your soul.” Therefore, the saints must be careful and keep the word they hear, so that they do not waver like a boat anchored at the dock. So what should we be careful to listen to?
1) It means to refrain from saying what you hear and accept it.
As in today's text, our members are God's people, so we must nurture ourselves according to his qualifications and status. It is difficult for us to live by the name of God's children as human beings, but God has made us holy and made us depend on Him. It is called sanctification, or holiness.
To be clothed with God's holy character according to his holiness is holiness. Just as we take off the clothes we wear every day and send them to the laundromat to send dirty clothes to the laundromat and put on freshly washed and ironed clothes, and just as if we put on freshly dried and ironed clothes, our hearts will fly away. For this purpose, today's text first tells us to always refrain from listening to you.
The first step to sanctification is a heart that can hear, and the knowledge of discernment. The beginning of sin comes from this seeing and hearing. Eve, who was tempted by the beautiful and abundant appearance of the tree of knowledge, said, “If you eat this fruit, will you die? All in all, those words are God’s oath to keep you from eating, or rather, once we eat this fruit, your eyes will be opened and you will become like God.” Eve had to discern this sound. And I had to resist the devil's sweet whispers.
How many chaotic sounds enter our ears these days? The sound of deceit, the texts that come to mind all the time on my cell phone telling me to call my brother, and the phone fraud case in which 5 million won came out when I dialed the number saying I had to transfer the money to my account, and it was especially secret and irresistible It is the sound of temptation that whispers sweetly, the voices of the devil that lead you to hell. It is a time when wisdom is required to refrain from what is really heard.
The word to refrain from hearing means to distinguish between the sounds, to hear what is heard, and to discard what is to be discarded, and especially it means to listen to the word and keep it. The modern era is called the era of PR, that is, the era of advertising. It means you have to promote yourself and make it known. Someone asked what PR is. PR is an advertisement, and it is said that it comes from the saying that advertising avoids what is to be avoided and informs what is to be advertised. Then, someone else said that PR means to inform. What you need to know, you need to be able to tell. Our ancestors risked death to announce the gospel. He really gave his life and shed blood. The very word is the saints who are fulfilling the holiness of God, and those who refrain from what they hear, that is, set aside what they hear, and do good works with zeal.
2) Beware and make peace.
3) It says to do everything with boldness and with caution.
It takes courage to keep the word of the Lord and to fulfill it. Boldness is the courage to overcome the world. The Lord asks us in John 16:33. “I have given this name to you, that you may find peace in me. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”
Jesus makes it clear that we will have tribulation in the world because of the fact that we believe in Him. Therefore, it is true that he said, Do not wonder that the world hates you. But the Lord does not stop at that, He promises to give them courage and to eventually triumph over the persecution. You will be persecuted, but be courageous, as I have overcome, so you will overcome.
2. A person who has received such an order must stand firm and avoid being washed away.
1) You must realize that your mission came from the Lord.
A person who wants to stand confidently and firmly must first know where he is standing and where he is. As the Lord said, a house built on a rock does not collapse and is strong, but a house built on the sand by the sea is severely damaged when the wind blows and floods occur. A ship anchored in a safe harbor surrounded by a port, or breakwater, is safe no matter how windy or typhoon blows. That is, am I on the rock and not on the sand? That is our heart to firmly believe and be sure of God's Word.
2) You must not be arrogant in your place.
So one should not be proud in the Lord who holds him and makes him gracious. These are the words we have heard from the Lord, and the words we will cherish earnestly are not to be arrogant. Pride is a denial of the Lord's grace, and pride inevitably fails when temptation comes. Just like the saying to be careful that those who think they are standing, be careful not to fall, remember that we can fall apart when we think we have achieved it. This is the attitude of the people who are not proud.
3) We must evangelize as we hear the Word.
If you listen to the word you hear with one ear and let it go, the word is nothing. It is the east wind that blows in the horse's ears. And there is a proverb that reads the sutras in Sogwie. Shall I let it flow and float away? This means that we do not receive all the warnings God gives us as warnings, but just wash them away like flowing water. However, the word of caution is to take care of what they hear and keep it and do it. Also, have a zeal to share the word you hear with your neighbors. is a word of request. It is like a ship that has landed in a safe port to protect and deliver it.
Conclusion.
1) If you go to Hadang Outer Port in Mokpo, you can see ships from all over the country and around the world moored at the port. For those ships to dock in the port, they do two things together. First, you have to lower the anchor and drive it deep into the ground, then lower the line from the ship and tether it to the poles of the harbor's marina. Only ships that are double or triple berthed are safe from wind and typhoons. No matter how large a ship weighing 10,000 tons, if it doesn't do that, the ships will be blown away by the wind and blown away, crashing and breaking.
2) The Word of God is the anchor and cord that anchors our soul's boat safely. I pray that you will receive deep grace from the Lord's words that make us comfortable and safe, receive the blessings of mature and sure believers, and become people who will establish the kingdom of God's glory.
