Title [Surprising Week Special] Let's Imitate Jesus' Tears
Contents
* Text: Luke 22:39-46
* Title: Imitate the Tears of Jesus
# Kidron choke //
* Today's title is "Let's imitate the tears of Jesus!" /
& God's Word! // Let's prove it.
* Today's text / begins like this.
- “Jesus went out and followed his custom to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him / and when they got there…”
& starts like this.
** Where did Jesus come from?
- He went out of the city of Jerusalem.
** In verse 40 / where is “the place”?
- We know... / The Garden of Gethsemane.
* In fact, during Holy Week / if there is a place we can't miss...
& Right, the Garden of Gethsemane.
* After the Passover supper with his disciples, Jesus / went to the Garden of Gethsemane.
- This garden was located - east of Jerusalem.
** By the way, to get to this garden from Jerusalem / you have to go through a valley,
& What is the name of that valley?
- According to John 18:1, / “Kidron Valley” / is written.
1) This Kidron Valley / appears only once in the New Testament.
2) And / appears several times in the Old Testament...
* Among them, // in the Old Testament, / when this Kidron Valley / will appear?
& Please go to 2 Samuel 15 once. <2 Samuel 15:22-23>
"David said to Ittai, "Go ahead." And Ittai the Gittite, his attendants, and all the children with him crossed over. / And all the people of the land wept with a loud voice, and all the people went over before him, and the king also crossed over the Kidron brook. And all the people who had crossed over went to the way of the wilderness.”
** Does the name “Kidron” appear here?
* Then / what is the important event / in 2 Samuel 15?
- 2 Samuel 15 / is the background of Absalom's rebellion.
- A beloved son rebels / takes a sword and runs towards his father. / I want to kill you.
** If we fight against / because we have to sacrifice so many people
& David left the wall of Jerusalem / and crossed the Kidron brook with the people.
& evacuation.
- At that time, the whole people / so unfairly... / so absurd... / so resentful
& as he crossed the Kidron Creek / he wailed aloud.
& I cried loudly and shed bloody tears.
* Therefore, this place called Kidron Creek / has a very deep connection with “tears.”
# In the Garden of Gethsemane...//
** And, when you cross this Kidron Creek... / Right away, there is a small garden that appears.
& That garden is the Garden of Gethsemane.
* In today's text, / Jesus entered this “Garden of Gethsemane” / after a habit.
** And, what did you do there?
- You prayed earnestly!!
** By the way, what did that prayer look like?
- Verse 44 of today's text! / Once again!! We will read it together.
- Do your best!! / Try hard!!! / More!!! / desperately!!!!
- Sweat like drops of blood!!! /// Prayed!!
** Here we see / how earnest our Lord's prayer / was...
& how much that prayer / “to God” was a prayer that we cried out earnestly...
& Luke, who wrote the Gospel of Luke, / expressed himself in every way he could.
- Everyone! Jesus' prayer today was an earnest prayer that risked his life.
- It was a prayer with tears in my eyes.
* The writer of Hebrews expresses this very fact this way: <In Hebrews 5:7>
“While he was in the flesh he offered up supplications and supplications with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his godliness.”
- Jesus / ahead of the way of the cross, the way of the martyrs. //
& in the Garden of Gethsemane... with weeping with tears, / with pouring of sap.
** So / the Garden of Gethsemane... // After our Lord prayed...
& that place… “valley of tears” / “fountain of tears” / was gone.
# meaning of tears //
* Then, what kind of tears did our Jesus shed at this time?
- What do the tears of our Lord / mean?
* If we look at the Bible / we find that Jesus shed tears three times.
1) The first, / before “the death of his friend Lazarus” / wept.
2) The second, / while looking at the “city of Jerusalem” that would be destroyed in the future, / wept.
3) The third time, / ahead of the way of the cross, / wept in the Garden of Gethsemane.
1. Jesus shed tears for the first time / looking at a person named “Lazarus.”
2. Further / Jesus wept / over “the nation of Israel.”
3. Going a step further, the Lord / over “the whole of mankind” / shed tears.
** Today's prayer is also - As time goes by... it has to widen a bit.
** In this way, Jesus / spent this Holy Week more than anything else / crying...
- Thinking of Israel... / Thinking of all mankind / Thinking of the disciples who will be left behind /
& thinking about the path of his mission //
& (It's not recorded like that in the Bible) All week long... You spent the whole week crying.
- In that sense // even during this troubled week /
& May we imitate the tears of the Lord.
* What kind of tears are our Jesus' tears?
I. The tears of our Jesus were tears for weak people.
* Joy and tears are a must in our human lives! Required.
- In particular, tears for our neighbors who are suffering and hardship are more essential than tears for ourselves.
** As we all know, "Joy is doubled when shared, and sorrow is halved when shared." It was.
- Tears that can be shed together while suffering the sorrow of our neighbors! /
& these are so precious / precious tears.
** But what's the problem? // The tragedy of our time today is that tears are dry.
- Active in laughing and having fun / but passive in evoking emotions and tears.
* British nurse Nightingale was nicknamed 'The Lady with the Lamp'.
- In 1907, the King of England / awarded Nightingale the first "Mettry" by a woman.
** By the way, / the medal was engraved like this.
“It is not just one thing to show mercy. / Words speak louder than money.
& when money and words can’t do it, tears can do it.”
2. Also, the tears of our Jesus / were the tears of confession that he loved us.
* The feelings of a loving heart / are meant to be revealed.
- With words, / sometimes with actions, // especially deep hearts / with tears / are bound to be revealed.
** When our parents pray for their children / the tears we shed /
& It is these “tears of love”.
- Today our Lord's tears / were the tears he shed for loving us.
3. Also, the tears our Jesus shed /
& Tears of a plea to wipe away the tears of others.
- Don't cry only for yourself /
& as the Lord had compassion on us and shed tears
& Today we too must be / to wipe away the tears of those who suffer.
* Famous Indian Gandhi / went out on the street one day.
- A large crowd came to see Gandhi.
- Among them, an old woman / was in tears without a word.
- At this point, Gandhi / stopped walking / and took out a handkerchief.
& Wiping the tears from Grandma's eyes / said this.
** "I want to wipe everyone's tears / but I don't have enough hands."
- As soon as these short words / were reported in the newspaper
& It is said that it has more than touched the hearts of the entire Indian people.
* After the US won the First War with Iraq/
& had an interview with the American commander who led the war to victory on ABC.
* The famous host “Barbara Walters” / asked the commander.
- “Commander! Americans call you the General of the Storm / What do you think?”
* The commander then replied:
- "no. I am a warm-hearted man.”
* The moderator asked again.
- “What do you think is America’s greatest enemy today?”
** Then the commander answered/ without hesitation at all.
- “It is not an external enemy like Iraq.
& the biggest enemy / is that there are more and more tearless men in America.”
* I think the commander had an excellent eye.
- When warm tears are removed from men, the society collapses.
- When a woman loses her warm tears/ the family collapses.
- When warm tears are removed from the rulers/ the politics will collapse.
- When the warm tears from businessmen disappear/ the economy collapses.
- When warm tears are gone from a soldier/ that security is destroyed.
** We all need to recover warm tears.
- In particular, we Christians must restore the prayer of tears.
1) As long as there are members who pray with tears / the church will not perish.
2) As long as there is a mother who prays with tears, / the family will not be destroyed.
3) As long as there are people who pray with tears / the country will not perish.
** Tears are a noble thing.
- That's why / you shouldn't spill it casually. / - should be poured into a noble place.
1) Therefore, we must shed it when we pray.
2) Also, we must pour it out for the salvation of others.
3) It should be poured out for the expansion of the kingdom of God and the revival of the church.
* This Holy Week / As the Lord cried
& I sincerely pray that you will have grace overflowing with tears like Jesus.
- Our God is weak to tears.
