Title Test! You must win/Matt 4:1~11
content test ! You must win/Matt 4:1~11
Key Verse: "Jesus answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceedeth out
Word: In the text, Jesus was tempted by the devil, but he overcame that temptation. Because it is a test that the Lord has overcome, we too can overcome any test. To overcome temptation, we need the wisdom to know our enemies.
First, the enemy devil tempts us through weakness (verse 2). After Jesus fasted for 40 days, the devil came and found that Jesus was hungry and tempted him to make bread with stones and eat it. Everyone has a weak spot. Some people are emotionally weak. Cain in the Bible could not control his emotions, so he killed his brother and became miserable. Some people are weak in reason. Samson could not get over the hill of reason and fell and lost the blessing of the Nazarite that God had given him. Trials come to us in the same way.
Second, the devil was tested in three ways (verses 3-9). ① It is a physical test (verse 4). The devil tempted Jesus, who was hungry, to make bread out of stones and eat it. Man cannot live apart from the things of the flesh. Christians need wisdom to manage things well.
②It is a mental test (verse 6). The devil tempts Jesus not to go down the path of suffering but to enjoy glory. The mental test is a test that comes after food, clothing and shelter are resolved. When you are successful or when you have more spare time in life, the spiritual world becomes empty. Even if we look at David in the Bible, he did not commit a sin during difficult times, but he does sin after becoming king.
③ It is a spiritual test (verses 8-9). This test is a dreadful test to take away the glory of God. The first humans, Adam and Eve, ate the forbidden fruit with the desire to become like God. King Uzziah fell ill with leprosy while offering a sacrifice that only priests could offer. All of them were thrown out of their positions after they had overtaken them. You must humble yourself. The more you experience grace, the more God's name should be revealed. Like Paul, we should boast of our weaknesses and only the blood-stained cross of the Lord.
Finally, how can you defeat the devil? ① We must be led by the Holy Spirit (verse 6). ② We must depend only on the Lord. ③ We must not compromise with Satan (verse 10). Tests come to those who live by faith, but by overcoming them, they become a blessing. Do not be afraid of all the trials that come before you. If you depend on the Lord, you too will surely overcome.
Prayer: God! We are constantly challenged in the world we live in. Whenever that happens, help me to overcome the temptation by being led by the Holy Spirit and relying only on You and not compromising with Satan. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
