Title [Text: Hebrews 9:1-10] Spiritual Reformation
We often hear the word reform. We hear that there must be political reform, institutional reform, social reform, and even religious reform. Today's text uses the term reform in verse 10. This is the only verse used in the Bible. The word reform, originally a medical term, refers to straightening a bent limb. Similarly, under the Old Covenant, the word reform was used to mean perfecting the imperfect. In other words, the Old Testament system was supported by meeting God and atonement at the tabernacle, but this system was not perfect, and therefore a more perfect system had to be given. It is through Jesus Christ. This can be called spiritual reform. We are going to share grace by introducing the Word under the title of “Spiritual Reform”.
1. The manner of serving God under the Old Covenant
It is natural for God's people to serve God at any age. However, the method may be different. The manner of serving mentioned in the text refers to worship. We also serve God through worship, but there was a way of serving in the Old Testament church as well. The rite was centered around the tabernacle. The tabernacle is divided into two. They are the sanctuary and the most holy place. The text distinguishes between the two.
2. Spiritual Reform
God has provided a way to approach God in Jesus Christ. This is spiritual reform.
① He made the temple veil torn. He did not stop those who came to God any longer. The road is open.
② You bled personally. It was not the blood of animals, but the holy blood of Jesus.
③ You have perfected your conscience. This conscience means a right conscience in relation to God.
We are free to come to meet and serve God in the name of Jesus. This is spiritual reform. May this blessed life last forever.
