Title The 6th Commandment/Exodus 20:1-17
Looking at the words of the past few weeks, commandments 1-3 were passive commands to "do not do ..." and commandments 4-5 were active commands "do ...". In the 6-10 commandments, it comes back to the negative command to "don't do...". If we actively express the commandment not to kill, it is to 'cherish and preserve people's lives, and help save each other's lives'. This commandment is different from saying not to kill. In the English Bible, it says 'Thou shall not kill', and in the German Bible it says 'Du sollst nicht toten', which is a misinterpretation of the Hebrew Bible to mean 'don't kill'. The Hebrew Bible says 'Lo tirshaka', which means not to kill people. Even in the revised version of the Revised Version, it says 'Thou shalt not kill'. We shouldn't hurt people. This includes both physical and mental murder. So, what are the lessons from the 6 commandments?
I. to know the dignity of life.
Human life is precious because we were created in the image of God. Nothing in this world was created in the image of God. Jesus said that he who hates his brother is a murderer (Matthew 5:21). 'Everyone who is angry with his brother will be judged' and 'Raga (Arabic swear word; ), those who say, 'They will be caught in a council (judgment),' and 'whoever calls them fools will be thrown into hellfire' (Matthew 5:22) Simply put, there is no one among us who is not a murderer. However, just because human life is precious, it cannot take the place of God. Therefore, you should not prolong your life by lying. Isaac tried to escape the threat of his life by lying as his sister in the region of Gerar (Gen. 26:7), but this is wrong. Rather, since life is precious, we must use a legitimate method to preserve it. It is necessary to solve the problems of food, clothing and shelter in the right way, to have adequate work and rest, to use medicines, and to defend oneself from assassins and violence.
II. There are things forbidden in the 6th commandment
It is forbidden to take or lead to the unjustified end of one's own life or the life of another. There are two main categories here: suicide and murder. Suicide is a selfish act, and it is not correct to think that only you can get out of suffering and to take the precious life God has given you. Murder is also not right to take another person's life in vain. Martin Luther said that if he had the ability and opportunity to give clothes to the naked, but did not give them, and he froze to death, he was murdered. Tyranny and beatings, negligence endangering life, harming others through pranks, insulting, mocking, hating, anger, or retaliation are all murders, which are forbidden in the Sixth Commandment. But just war and the death penalty are permitted in the Bible.
Ⅲ. The Six Commandments enrich the Christian life.
The sixth commandment tells us that the source of human life is God. It shows that you are our creator. However, among the saints these days, there is a tendency to self-destruct by leading a superstitious and fanatical fasting and abstinence due to false beliefs. Therefore, you should do right fasting, but avoid wrong fasting. Those who produce or sell junk food, harmful pigments, spoiled meat, and illegal drugs must have a good economic view and conduct commercial activities to create a bright society. We must also fight drugs, alcohol, tobacco and alcohol and promote health. A life of debauchery, disorder, and loss of ability to control emotions kill themselves and others. Such a person should lead a life of moderation and norms. In addition, those who have lost their sensitivity and reason destroy their families, society, and even themselves. Therefore, for a healthy and abundant life, reason and emotion must move in a balanced way. Finally, we must cast away evil thoughts and love each other.
Let me conclude.
He said that life belongs to God. We are borrowed from God for a while. Just as my life is precious, so are the lives of others. Therefore, we will need to protect, love, and help each other, as well as maintain peace. Second, it is to the glory of God to exalt the life of others as if it were your own. If I have the love of God, I can please God by loving others with the love I received. Therefore, the 6 Commandments commanded us to realize the love of our brothers and sisters before God, knowing that the lives of others are as precious as our own. I hope that by keeping these words, you can become faithful children of God who enjoy grace and blessings. I hope in the name of
