The Absolute Reason We Need the Gospel
Text/ Matthew 11:25-30, Romans 7:21-25
1. Introduction
How have you been last week? What did you do on Monday? Do you remember clearly what you were doing on Tuesday?, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and just last Saturday night?. Or do you have no idea what you've been doing?. How are you?
In fact, our lives today are very busy, time-consuming and busy with countless tasks, miscellaneous appointments, and things that are not very important. Children are busy too. Adults are busy too. Old people are busy too. Not only city people are busy, but rural people are also busy. Fishing villagers are also busy. Mountain villagers are also busy. I was so busy, busy, and hard working, but looking back, I can't stand back and forth about what made me so busy or what I was doing.
If you have had such a busy and busy day or week, you should have the satisfaction of achieving something and the relaxed calmness after doing a big job, but I don't have that feeling. I was just insanely busy. Our lives are full of appointments, meetings, phone calls, cell phones, school, work, business, television, and entertainment, but our insides are empty. From the outside, it appears to be completely full, but afterward, it is filled with nothing but emptiness and disappointment. No is it?
2. A meaningless life is a cursed life
Camus said in "The Myth of Sisyphus" that a meaningless life is a cursed life. King Sisyphus of ancient Greece committed a crime against Zeus. Zeus punished Sisyphus. The punishment is to push a large rock up to the top of a mountain. It is not a punishment that ends when you put a thousand rocks on it. That means you have to put the same rock on top of it every day. Sisyphus wakes up in the morning and grunts all day long, and the moment he puts a rock on top of the mountain, it rolls down the mountain. Sisyphus must descend the mountain and roll up the rock again the next morning. This is the punishment, and the curse is that Sisyphus is conscious of pushing the rock up and rolling it down again. Destiny to push it up even though you know it's a rock that will roll down anyway!. That is the punishment Sisyphus received.
A meaningless day, a meaningless week, a meaningless year, a meaningless 10 years, and a meaningless 100 years are tragedy. Curse. Punishment. Death.
3. O wretched man I am!
How are we? Is it a meaningful life or a meaningless life?
We all want to live a meaningful life. Nevertheless, we too live a meaningless life. We live an empty and empty life that seems to be filled, but not at all. Are we the only ones? no. Everyone in this world is like that. Therefore, there is none righteous, not even one.
4. If so, is there a way to live a meaningful life? isn't there?
what is that road? It is believing in the Lord Jesus. Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you and your household will be saved! Jesus himself said in the text, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
I am the Way, I am the Truth, I am the Life!
He said that the Lord Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life that leads to that life full of meaning.
Human wisdom, human effort, and human meditation cannot lead to a meaningful life. Believing in, learning, and obeying Jesus Christ is the only way to a meaningful life. Salvation cannot be found in anyone else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we can be saved.
5. Closing Story
Gospel means Good News in English, evangelium in Latin, Euangelion in Greek, and <the news of victory in war>. Just as victory in war is the gospel, and rain is the gospel to a farmer who has met a drought, so he wanders here and there without finding the true meaning of life. that is the gospel.
This is why you and me, and those who are slowly dying, need the Gospel, Jesus Christ, absolutely. Especially since there is no other alternative.
