Title The Chosen Workers/Acts 6:1-7
Content Sermon Title The Chosen Workers
Preacher Kim Jo
Bible Verse Acts 6:1-7
God is working through people on this earth. The church also needs to do God's work on this earth, so many workers are needed and are being built. It's really important how you set up those workers and who you are. That is why we choose God's servants while praying and relying on God's sovereignty. That is why today, through the text of the ministry of workers in the early church, I would like to speak with the title “chosen workers”. There had to be workers needed for the early church to grow greatly. They do not claim their own property rights, but they are common to each other. As I was giving these to those in need, I found that some Jews, Hellenistic Jews who had returned from abroad, and Hebrew Jews who had just stayed in their own country, spoke slightly different languages. As a result, a lot of time was wasted to preach the word and pray, so he had them set up workers to effectively handle this work, and after that, the church grew even bigger. This is the main text. I want to receive grace thinking about why I chose someone.
First, what is the purpose of choosing a group?
1. To help the apostles' ministry. (Verses 3 and 4)
2. It was for the fellowship of love. (Verse 1)
“… … … I blamed the Hebrews.” To get rid of these resentments and complaints, we set up a team to share the love of Christ evenly. Therefore, it is necessary to be a person who understands and cooperates to accomplish God's will on this earth, and through this, the fellowship of love should deepen by helping the church to solve the problem of polarization in Korean society.
3. It is for prayer and evangelism.
In order for the apostles to focus on prayer and preaching the Word, they entrusted the empty box to the deacon as an assistant, so that they set up the work for prayer and evangelism. There are many things that the church should do, such as fellowship, almsgiving, and service, but above all these, prayer and evangelism are the top priority. Therefore, these people must be the workers.
Next, consider a group of qualifications (verse 3).
What kind of person should be a servant The same thing required of those who have received the Lord's work is, "What we need of those entrusted with it is loyalty" (2 Corinthians 4:2). Let's look at the qualifications to do in the text.
1. You must be a person filled with the Holy Spirit.
“If you do not have the Spirit of Christ, you do not belong to Christ” (Romans 8:9), so you must receive the Holy Spirit and be filled with inspiration, inspiration, and obedience to the work of God who dwells in you. Deacon Stephen also accomplished great works when he was filled with the Holy Spirit (7:55). It is good for church officials to have good academic background, family, wealth, and position in the world, but the more important thing to do is to be filled with the Holy Spirit to do God's work. Moses was used after seeing God in the midst of a thorn bush fire, that is, after being filled with the Holy Spirit. Peter, who said he did not know Jesus three times, also repented and was filled with the Holy Spirit and used.
2. You must be full of wisdom.
Wisdom here is not a common sense or learning in the world, but a person who can discern the truth, which is the Word of God, understand the will of God, understand it, and can teach others properly. It is not that worldly studies and academic backgrounds are not necessary, but God's work requires wisdom from God. When he sent out his disciples, he said, “Be wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16) and “Be as wise, save the time, for the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15,16). You must be a person who has a prayer to understand God's will and who gives strength to the saints even with a single word, but does not put them to the test.
3. Be commended.
You must be respected and loved in your interpersonal relationships. When you say the Lord's work only when it is humanly acceptable, we will trust you and work with you. Therefore, even unbelievers, those who are respected and praised become the workers chosen by the church. It is Christianity that the vertical love of God and the horizontal love of people are properly achieved, so people who are recognized by God and people in this way must be selected as a group.
I'll shorten my words.
The chosen workers in the church doing God's work do not get a position, but take on the office. Rather than being loyal, he considers them loyal and gives them his office (1 Tim 1:12). You should be a person who is worthy of personal respect and praise. We should make them become such servants, and we hope that such a person will be chosen as a servant and that God will be glorified.
