Old Testament
1. The LORD said to Abram, "Leave your country and your relatives and your father's house and go to the land I will show you.
2. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
3. Whoever blesses you I will bless, and whoever curses you I will curse, and all peoples on the earth will be blessed through you.
4. So Abram followed the word of the LORD, and Lot went with him, and Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.
new testament
26. In the same way the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
27. He who searches hearts knows the thoughts of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
28. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose.
29. Those whom God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
30. And those whom he predestined he also called; those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
sermon
Even when we pray, we do not know the will of God well.
What is the reason for receiving answers to prayers as they are? Romans 8:26 says that the Holy Spirit prays for us. The Holy Spirit searches our hearts and knows exactly what we need. And he clearly knows the will of God. So, because the Holy Spirit groans and prays earnestly for the saints according to God's will, that prayer will surely come true.
But here the Bible makes a surprising declaration for us. It is that we are not only people whose prayers reach us, but also people whose all things work together for good. In all these things, it is said that not only happy and good things, but also sad and painful things, all work together for good for us. How is that possible?
The reason is given in verses 29 and 30. It is because God foreknew us and foreordained us to become like Jesus Christ. God's amazing plan does not stop there.
God called them in due time and justified them by giving them faith.
And he says that in the end he will glorify those who are justified.
This is why you have called us. You are called to give all these things.
We, who have received this word, know how great God's love is, and we cannot doubt that love.
