Introduction
For Israel, Moses is a very important person. He was born in a situation where he had no choice but to be killed by the order of the king of Egypt at the time (Ex 1:22), and he had to be abandoned by his parents (Ex 2:3), but he was saved by the mercy of the princess (Exodus 1:22). Exodus 2:9).
Nevertheless, why do believers living today want to accept Moses as a person prepared by God? It may be because, in the end, he was used as the leader of Israel. From now on, let's take a look at what Moses is talking about in the Bible. Let's break free from the prejudices so far through the book of Exodus.
1. Prejudice (Levites)
When people of faith appear, the readers of the Bible think, how can I have the same faith as them, and how can I be recognized and used in front of people? Therefore, people are zealous for this work and work hard to show their uniqueness through fasting, prayer, and giving (Matthew 6:1).
However, rather than giving us rest, we should know that while living a more difficult life than in the past, we are proud of 'how much effort and dedication have I devoted?' 1-2).
If so, who was one of the Levites in the text? The Bible mentions the priesthood for the tribe of Levi after the Exodus. Therefore, when we say the tribe of Levi, we should think of it as one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Thus, we learn that two of the people of Israel met and married. In other words, the Bible is suggesting that the tribe of Levi is too ordinary people.
2. Maternal love (Exodus 2:2)
Born as a Levite woman, Jochebed was the mother of Moses (Ex. 6:20; Num. 26:59). She records that when Moses was born, she ‘beheld Moses’ goodness (beauty) and hid it for three months’ (Exodus 2:2; Acts 7:20). But at the command of the king of Egypt, she abandoned her son in the Nile (Exodus 2:3). Who can praise a maternal love that only lasts for three months? Furthermore, how many parents in the world would not be terrified that their child was beautiful, cute, and that it wouldn't hurt to put them in their eyes? What would you do if you were Moses' parents?
3. Pharaoh's daughter (Ex 2:5)
The princess of Pharaoh already knew that Jewish children would be thrown into the Nile and killed (Exodus 1:22). But she said that she went out to bathe in the Nile River. Was it because there was no place to bathe in Pharaoh's palace, so he came out to bathe? Or was it for some other reason? (Some claim it was a sacrificial bath)
The princess of Pharaoh immediately rescued a child from the Nile River, did not kill him, had pity on him, and did not hesitate to pay child support to raise the child (Exodus 2:9). And she made him his son and gave him the name ‘Moses’ (Exodus 2:10).
4. Moses
Moses, who was found and saved by Pharaoh by the princess, was able to be brought up in the arms of his birth mother with the help of the princess. However, Moses did not receive the Word of God and religious education from Jochebed. All he knew was that he was a Jew (Moses, Exod. 2:10) (Exodus 2:11). Because Pharaoh's daughter called him 'Moses', so anyone who heard his name revealed that he was a child rescued from the Nile River.
conclusion
Exodus presents Moses, the great model of faith. And he is recorded as a person who is used preciously before God. However, looking at his life, he was born as a being who had no choice but to be killed in the face of great power, but ironically, he was able to save his life by the Egyptian king's princess who ordered him to kill him, and he grew up as the princess's son. However, the princess also needs the wisdom to discover that the princess is revealing her 'righteousness' by giving her a name.
Therefore, it can be found that Moses should not be viewed as a special person prepared before God, even less as a person preparing to be used before God.
But our hope in Moses is because we expect God to be with him, and eventually God's will to be done through him. Even when we are forsaken from the world, God is with us
