Yeongam Church Prayer School (15) Pray with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6-7) 2002.09.25.
In the original text of the Bible, the word for thanksgiving is called “charis”, which is the same word as grace. In the New Testament, many words for thanksgiving are translated as “eucharis”. Also, in the original language of the word thanks, there is the word “eucaris”, which means “good gift” and “blessing”. In this way, what is true gratitude? In other words, it can be said that it is a good gift that those who have received grace from God will repay him for his grace. Grace is a free gift from God, and gratitude is a gift we give to God. At this time, God sees it and blesses us.
1. The attitude of the auditor
① You should always look at what kind of grace you have received.
1 Corinthians 15:10 “But it is by the grace of God that I am what I am, and his grace that was given to me was not in vain.
The three words we hear the most in church are grace, faith, and love. Grace is literally translated as 'God's favor bestowed upon those who do not deserve it'. However, the key condition of grace is 'God's love'. His patient love is the very essence of grace. However, grace should not be interpreted in this respect. Grace must be interpreted on the part of the recipient in order to understand its true meaning and live according to grace.
<Ingratitude> is something that can happen to those who do not know grace. However, those who truly know grace do not waver in the face of any temptations and difficulties, but rather give thanks for the grace they have received. The believer should not be ungrateful in his faith. I need to reflect on the grace I have received every day and live a life of gratitude.
② You should give thanks in an amount in return for the grace you have received.
※ The Chinese character of the word thanks (感謝) means “to shoot the grace you have received with all your heart”. Believers should always let the words of thanks for the grace they receive go up to God. Always make a sound from the altar saying the name of thanks.
Psalm 26:6-7 “I will wash my hands, O LORD, because I am innocent, and go through your altars, to hear the voice of thanksgiving, and to tell of all your marvels.”
<Thanks> has the principle of circulation. When water becomes steam and rises, it gives rain again and has a principle of circulation that revives all things. If water is not circulated, all things will die. Believers should have a good cycle of thanksgiving. If I respond with gratitude charismatic for the grace I received from God, that gratitude comes back to me as more fruits of blessing. Therefore, the way for believers to win over their faith is to speed up the cycle of thanksgiving.
③ You should pray with thanksgiving every time you pray.
Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
Apply the cycle of thanksgiving charism to your prayers. When we give thanks, a new history arises. In a word, anxiety is the enemy and enemy of joy. There can be no prayer, no hymns, no thanks, as long as anxiety remains in me. When anxiety grows, it breeds anxiety and nervousness.
"Marasmus" is a disease that occurs in war orphans or children of orphanages, and the symptoms are stunted and debilitating, and sometimes even die when the disease worsens. However, the cause of this disease is a lack of affection and anxiety. It is said that the unloved, the helpless, and thus the lonely, lonely, and anxious people are susceptible to the disease.
All people living in the world cannot be free from worries, but the problem is how to deal with and resolve them. Paul said, “Pray to God” and “Give thanks to God”.
According to a study by a microbiology research team at the University of Pennsylvania in the US, there are 2 million bacteria on skin the size of a coin. However, scientists studying the role of microbes say that we are more susceptible to disease when bacteria are absent than when they are in our bodies. If you pray to God whenever you have anxiety, it is much more beneficial than not praying because you have no worries. Strictly speaking, worry or worry is nothing more than disbelief disguising itself.
McLaren said, “Anxiety does not take away sadness, it only takes away capacity. Worry does not take me away from iniquity, it only makes me lose the strength to fight against it.” Worry gives us nothing good. Anxiety increases, problems increase, despair increases, and distrust increases.
It is said, “Speak to God with thanksgiving.” However, there are people who mistakenly think that prayer is a prayer or prayer. But prayer should not be without thanksgiving. Prayer without thanksgiving is easy to succumb to. Did Paul say that if we pray to God with thanksgiving, we will overflow with joy? The reason for this is that prayer is about entrusting one's problems to God by faith, and since it is a confession to follow and obey God's will, the person who prays will have no worries or anxieties. When you pray, your worries go away. If you pray, your worries should go away. Worrying while praying is because you cannot pray.
2. The Power of Thanksgiving
① Peace comes.
Philippians 4:7 “Then the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
<Answer>: When believers pray, peace in their hearts is the evidence of answers. Therefore, keep praying until peace comes, and keep praying with thanksgiving until it bears fruit.
God's peace is God's answer to those who cast all their anxieties on Him and pray. And when the peace of God takes hold of my heart and mind so that I will never fall into anxiety again, I have an overflow of joy. Jugyeongga Vincent said, “Peace is the antidote to anxiety. One of the two is set to settle in my mind. Whether anxiety or peace is established. The peace of God means the inner peace that comes to me from God and dwells in my heart. It is joy. And the peace of God comes to me when I am in the Lord, when I am with the Lord, and when I am with the Lord.
E. E. Hewitt, the composer of Hymn 455, suffered a sudden accidental accident in the winter of 1887 and injured his spine. As her faith weakened after several months of hospitalization and resentment against the perpetrator began to pile up, she was greatly impressed by the faith of the hospital janitor who never lost her praise even in difficult circumstances, deeply repenting of her life full of hatred and resentment, and sang a hymn. wrote the lyrics
♬ Do I have any other worries in the Lord? I went to the bottom of the cross and unpacked my burdens. The fear has been turned into my prayer, The sigh of the previous day has been turned into my song. My Lord is merciful and always with me, knows my need and always provides. The covenant I made with my Lord is everlasting, and he always protects me until I go to that country. While praising the Lord, hallelujah, hallelujah, even though the road ahead of me is long and rough, I will only follow the Lord.
Believers in the Lord can live joyfully with praise and thanksgiving.
② Oh Byeong-Eye's blessing is coming.
John 6:11-13 "Jesus took the bread, gave thanks and gave it to those who sat down, and gave the meat as they wished. After they were satisfied, Jesus said to his disciples, "Gather up the pieces that are left, and let nothing be thrown away." They ate five barley loaves and filled twelve baskets of leftover pieces."
Remember that <5 bottles, 2 words> was not just accomplished, but a miracle that happened after praying and giving thanks to Jesus.
③ The miracle of the living of the dead appears.
John 11:41 "The stone was removed, and Jesus lifted up his eyes and looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me."
The fact that <Dead Lazarus> came to life was not just accomplished, but a miracle that came after believing and thankful that Jesus answered our prayers. Gratitude works miracles.
④ Entrust the position.
1 Timothy 1:12 “I give thanks to Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because he has considered me faithful and entrusted me with the ministry.”
<Person in charge> should not be forced to do so, but should carry out the mission with gratitude. The Lord bless these people. Even if it is not enough, if you pray to be able to handle it, He will give you the strength to handle it. We are truly grateful that you have entrusted us with our duties as you have been regarded as loyal. It means that you believe in me and love me.-Peter denied the Lord three times, but the Lord confirmed his love and entrusted him with the flock. It means that he is regarded as a faithful servant.- Although disloyal, the Lord became our representative and gave his life for us, so he sees it as faithfulness that does not spare his life. Therefore, we who are disloyal are accepted by God. It means that if it is not enough, they will push it. - He fills us when we are inexperienced and weak, gives us strength, and gives us victory.
⑤ Glory to God.
2 Corinthians 4:15 “All things are done for you, so that grace may overflow through the thanksgiving of many, and overflow to the glory of God.”
If you give thanks to <Prayer>, answers will appear and many people will glorify God. Experience the power of thanksgiving.
A world-famous violinist, Paganini, was playing in front of a very high-level audience one day. However, while playing, one of the violin strings suddenly broke. At that moment, the audience was startled, but the performer did not panic and continued playing the beautiful song with the remaining three strings in a calm manner. However, another line was cut off. But Paganini still continued to play. Then the third string broke again with a sharp sound. However, with seasoned technique and excellent craftsmanship, he played his chosen tune perfectly to the end. On that day, the audience gave thunderous applause, saying, "One Paganini with one string." Even in the field of our lives, sometimes the line breaks. Rather, it can be an opportunity to elevate myself further. Because wonderful and moving victories can come right in the midst of a crisis. Christians can glorify God through adversity and crisis through prayer of thanksgiving.
So many reasons to love the Lord
Thank you. God!
Even so, the dawn illuminates the gloomy day
because of the little things that happen all of a sudden
Thank you. God!
Erase that disappointment on the big day of disappointment
You have cast a happy light on our path
Thank you. God !
Scattering the dark clouds in our hearts
Only because of the deep joy and light that remain
Oh God! My thanks to you is endless
Do you think or do what you think is normal?
Forgive me. Forgive me.
Pulse that beats according to the rhythm
That every moment of life you breathe is what you have given me.
I pretended not to know.
God forgive me! our petty
Forgive us our shallow hearts that are not even a little grateful.
So for the many things to thank the Lord for
Give thanks to the Lord and live.
I pray in the name of Jesus, who is the source of blessing, amen.
Prayer Empowers Us
Prayer is our breath; he who breathes prays.
Prayer is our praise; he who sings to the Lord prays.
Prayer is our food, and every time we eat, we give thanks to God.
Prayer is our knowledge; the heart toward God is wisdom.
All these things are our prayers, and the Holy Spirit is with us in all things.
With thanksgiving, we pray that God gives us infinite power
We thank and pray in the name of our Savior Jesus. Amen!
