Comparison between Moses and Christ

(Explanation to Hebrews 14)

Comparison of Moses and Christ

(Hebrews 3:2-6)

The writer of Hebrews compares Moses and Christ in verse 2 and below. Of course, Moses and Christ are incomparable. But why did Moses appear here and compare him with Christ? This is because the Jews perceive Moses as a model person for the Messiah. When Moses testified of the Messiah in the Law, he said, “God will raise up a prophet like me.” It has been recognized as such. The writer of Hebrews compares Christ with Moses and testifies to how much greater he is than Moses, so he was trying to prove that Christ is the Messiah.

1. Loyalty in the House of God

The author compares the loyalty of Moses and Christ in the house of God in this verse. The Bible testifies to Moses' loyalty in the house of God. Num 12:7 says, “Not so with my servant Moses, for he is faithful in all my house.” However, compared to Moses, Christ is being introduced as a superior person that dares not be compared.

It tells us that Christ deserves more glory than Moses. In that comparison, it is said that “it is as if the builder of a house is more honorable than that house.” The house itself is not honorable. The owner of the house who will build the house and enjoy the glory in that house is honorable. This is the comparison between Moses and Christ.

When the writer of Hebrews says in verse 4, “Every house has a builder, and God created all things,” it is applied to Christ. In verse 3, when it says that the builder of a house is worthy of more glory than the house, Moses is compared to a house, and Christ is the builder of the house. Word.

2. Moses as a Servant and Christ as a Son Loyalty

The whole house of God where Moses worked is Israel. The Old Testament church refers to Israel. Moses' faithfulness to God in Israel was to testify of Christ and to be faithful as a worker to preach the gospel that he will accomplish. This kind of work is said to be the ministry of the servant, but the servant here is not the Messiah, but the position of a prophet who testifies of the Messiah.

But about Christ, verse 6 says, “Christ was faithful as the son of his household.”

So what does it mean to be a son of his household?

His house here refers to the church purchased with the blood of Christ. It is a house with a different meaning from the whole house of God to which Moses was loyal. Moses' allegiance was limited to Israel. And he was faithful to testify of Christ in Israel. But Christ appears as the Son of Household. His loyalty means loyalty as a son in charge of the house.

These words show that although he is the original God, he came into the world in the form of the Son of Man and fulfilled his obedience to the point of obedience to the point of death. Therefore, the Jews' view of the Messiah is narrow-minded, and it is an error limited to Israel, and it is a strong testimony to the fact that the recognition of Moses as a model person of the Messiah is an incorrect view of the Bible.

We can find the answer to the question of who belongs to the house of Christ through the words in the second half of verse 6. First, he said that we should have the boldness and pride of hope. It means hope through Christ. Our hope is not to be ashamed of. You have to have the boldness of that hope. And that hope is what we are proud of. Without such pride, as a Christian, there is no gratitude, no emotion, and no reward in life.

Conclusion: In this way, it is said that if we hold fast to the end the boldness and pride of the hope that comes from Christ, and do not let it go, it is his house. His house refers to the authority of the children of God, which means eternal life and the inheritance of heaven. We must become saints who hold fast the boldness and pride of this hope to the end.
