Bible/ Numbers 20:10-13

Title/ Toward God's Promise (3)-Hazeroth

(against authority)

Fuller Theological Seminary Lecture on Home Economics Professor Jack & Judy Ballswick [Christian Family] Three types of family

It was “authority”.

Traditional assumption - authority is concentrated in one person, strict order exists, but the freedom of family members is sacrificed (Confucian values assumption)

Modern family- A family without authority, all members of the family are free, confusion and conflict due to loss of order (current family)

Biblical Assumption - Authority rests with God, and children need God to obey God's authority.

Respect parents as the established authority, and parents use their authority according to God's intentions.

A family that raises children with love

Modern times are all about getting rid of the idol of authority. Thus, the word progress symbolizes criticism and rebellion against authority. As a result, various areas of our poetry are experiencing confusion and conflict due to the lack of authority.

What we need to know is that “authoritarianism” is non-biblical, whereas “authority” is biblical. that is.

As a result of misunderstanding it, we are now reaching the point of denying authority itself - even in the church.

The text results from three events of rebellion against authority. In conclusion, as a result of rebellion against authority, the great leader Moses and his brothers Aaron and Miriam all die and cannot enter the Promised Land.

Through this event, we want to participate in the journey to a life blessed by God through the restoration of families and churches that respect authority, and the restoration of life.

First/ Aaron and Miriam's rebellion (Numbers 12) - Numbers 12:1

Cush (Ethiopia)- International marriage It is presumed that Moses and those who opposed the marriage said that they “prayed and then heard the voice of God and made a decision” -Miriam and Aaron’s reaction (12:2)

There are two errors in this reaction. It was a challenge to God's leadership (authority) that did not acknowledge Moses' prayer itself, Moses' leadership, and furthermore, gave him authority as a leader.

As a result, Miriam developed leprosy - the reason it was the cause - the reason Miriam's skin for judging people based on the color of their skin - the reason to go out and break the leadership of Moses

Although it is a family, Moses was a leader established by God and led the nation. God does not tolerate tarnishing a leader through something non-essential. - Recognized as a challenge to God's authority. - Miriam was healed and restored through Moses' intercession - Hazeroth (Numbers 11:35; 12:16) As a result, Miriam's death (Numbers 20:1) After that Shortly thereafter, Aaron died (Numbers 20:29) (Numbers 33:38).

Forty years had passed since they left Egypt, and it took them over two years to arrive at Kadesh-Barnea, the very sight of Canaan, and after that, they spent 38 years wandering around Kadesh-Barnea.

In the vicinity, Miriam and Aaron became immortal aliens who could not enter the Promised Land due to their deaths.

In the end, their dreams were lost due to disobedience to authority, and they became miserable people whose lives collapsed.

Second/ Moses' rebellion (Numbers 20)- Numbers 20:8- Meribah

God commanded Moses to turn to the rock and let water flow. But Moses (verse 11) disobeyed God's command and struck the rock twice.

In spite of the rebellion, God brought water from the rock God's mercy and mercy.

It is merciful and merciful to the people, but to Moses it is disobedience and rebellion against God's Word. And the result is God's judgment (Numbers 20:12).

The reason is not that the problem is not that Moses struck the rock twice, nor that Aaron simply challenged Moses' authority. God says in verse 12:

In other words, pay attention to the fact that He says it is because of their unbelief. “Because they did not believe in me.”

At Rephidim, Moses trusted in God, and when he struck the rock with his staff, rivers of living water flowed. But not now (v. 10).

We (I) - forgetting God's full help. God did not overlook Moses' unbelief, who refused to depend on God

Absolute obedience under any circumstances, have absolute faith, do not disobey God's authority

Third/ Our Rebellion - Meribah

Rather than sitting by the waters of Meribah and praying for the leader God has established, like the Israelites, we sometimes blame the leader and blame God and say, “God, you must not do this.” Are we not complaining while saying, or is the pain of Meribah, when children disobey and rebel against their parents and teachers, is not our reality? We need to think about whether or not we are representing the way we live our lives in slander, criticism, and rebellion.

There is a saying. “Children learn from their parents' backs...” I saw a funny video on UCC video. There is a video titled "Shinsehantan of a 6-year-old", and I was surprised that the child's words were so mature. At first I laughed it off, but after a while I had an enlightenment that came to me. How could the child say such a thing? “This is how I am Monsanda, it is so hard, hey Lacano, I can’t live a day because it is so hard, Ankhana…” This kind of language is not believed to have just come from a child's mind. It was only considered that he had learned from his parents.

That's right. The rebellion of our children today is what we learn from seeing.

There is something we need to remember when we want to disobey.

It's that we have the old-fashioned nature of rebellion. But

The regenerated character of a new person, given when we believe in Jesus Christ, is that we want obedience, not rebellion.

The Bible recounts the disposition of Jesus who showed an example of obedience (Hebrews 5:8-9).

In the book of Philippians (Philippians 2:8), we are urged to follow Christ's example of obedience to God's will even to death.

Are we children of God? Do you really want to be like and follow Jesus Christ?

if so

We must decide to live a life of obedience.

Jesus said, “Not my will, but your will,” and he chose obedience.

Your choice? Something? Obedience or rebellion?
