Drinking water without filling, 7:37-39
There are many things in the world that you have to eat after filling. For example, after filling a rice container with rice, take out as much as one meal every day and eat kimchi. Rice in a rice container or kimchi in a kimchi container is often refilled after eating almost all of it. Contrary to this, there are some that are eaten without filling. It is the water in a well or a spring. You don't drink the water in a well or spring after filling it up, you just have to pour it out. If you scoop out ten gourds of well or spring water, ten gourds will spring up from the bottom, and if you scoop out a hundred gourds, a hundred gourds will spring up from the bottom. Then, what does well water or spring water mean? First, it is the Holy Spirit that comes upon those who believe.
Verses 38-39 of the text say, “Whoever believes in me, as the Bible says, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.” This is referring to the Holy Spirit, whom those who believe in him will receive. What does the Holy Spirit refer to in this verse? It's just fresh water. But Jesus said that this was not just living water, but ‘a river of living water’. Living water and rivers of living water have different nuances. Bottled water is reminiscent of water in a bucket that disappears when you drink it, but rivers of bottled water are reminiscent of well water or spring water that flows endlessly even after drinking. The Holy Spirit is living water that continues to flow even if you drink it, drink it, or pour it out like water from a well or a spring. In order for us to live a healthy and powerful life, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit like living water. In order to be filled with the Holy Spirit, we must be filled with faith in Jesus Christ. This is because the Holy Spirit comes on those who believe (Acts 19:2). Second, Jesus Christ is the source of living water.
However, water is not only necessary for physical life. Even spiritual life needs water. That water is Jesus Christ, the source of the Holy Spirit and living water that comes to those who believe. The Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ become living water that springs up to eternal life in the believer's heart like a well or a spring that continues to spring up even if it is scooped up and scooped up. I pray in the name of the Lord that by drinking this living water, you will become spiritually healthy saints.
