Exercising your title right/Acts 10
Content Thomas Jefferson, who drafted the 1776 American Declaration of Independence, said that we all deserve certain God-given “inalienable rights.” But even in a democracy, there is a heated debate about who has which rights.
Christians can look at rights from a different perspective. You can think about what other people need rather than worrying about yourself. In that sense, like the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37), we have a “right” to help others. The words of this parable were exemplified by our Savior Himself. In Acts 10:38, it is recorded that Jesus “went about doing good”.
Believers should imitate Jesus and become “doers of good.” This word is sometimes used negatively, but in gratitude for God's saving grace, we want to share with others the good things God has given us.
We know that the gospel is more than a humanitarian message to do good and be good people. The gospel is the message that God forgave sins through the death and resurrection of His only begotten Son. As we exercise our “right” to help those around us, let us prayerfully share this good news as well.
Souls weary from the road of life
Lord, help us to carry their burdens together.
Souls living as slaves to sin
Lord, help me to save those souls.
If you open your heart to Jesus Christ, you will also open your heart to his loved ones.
