Title: Save! Find it! knock!
Text: Genesis 24:10-20, Matthew 7:7-12
I am thinking of praying for my successor. First, from the words of the old wise man, we think about the posture of prayer. It reminds us of God's sovereign providence and obedience to it. ‘The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of a word comes from the Lord… Entrust your deeds to the Lord. Then your plans will come to pass... A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps' (Proverbs 16:1-9). You will think about the conditions for answering prayers. ‘If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish. And it will be given to you” (John 15:7). And you will think about the specific execution of the prayer you need to offer. The title of that word comes to mind from the New Testament text (Matthew 7:7-12). ‘Save! Find it! Knock!’. It is a command to seek, to seek and to knock.
If someone asks ‘How long?’, the answer is, of course, ‘until you receive an answer.’ There is a specific true story for reference. Today's Old Testament text (Genesis 24:10-20). It was when I was looking for a wife for Isaac from the family of Abraham, the father of faith. The servant Eliezer was once referred to as Abraham's heir (Genesis 15:2). That is why he was a servant worthy of being called an alter ego of Abraham, the father of faith. As he grows older, he receives an important assignment from his old master Abraham. It is to act on behalf of the owner. It is to find a wife for his only son, Isaac. Have them place their hands under the hip bones and make an oath. Confirming the will of the master in case of case, he sets out on the long road from Palestine to Mesopotamia. Eliezer arrives at his destination and prays. And waiting for that prayer to be answered. So you get a response.
The object of that prayer is “the Lord, the God of our master Abraham” (12). When Eliezer asked for water to drink among the virgins whom Eliezer looked like, she was a woman who volunteered to drink water not only for herself but also for the camels. It was, of course, a woman who was more generous in kindness. '"His answer is drink. I will also give your camels a drink.” He was ordained by the Lord for your servant Isaac. Because of this, I will know that you are gracious to my master” (14b). I am talking about the role God should be involved in in discerning God's will. In the end, we choose a wife for Isaac, and it is a prayer that presupposes God's guidance and determination. This prayer of faith is presumed to be a habit that Eliezer learned through his body while serving his master Abraham all his life.
All the actions Eliezer took make it clear that he was single-minded in carrying out the mission entrusted to him. With this answer in mind, let's pray for a successor call. [May your servant whom you have prepared be found in an easy way, that they may discern, and that your will may be done] 1) It is a prayer to believe that there is a prepared servant of God. 2) It is a prayer that we believe and pray that God will guide our steps. 3) This is a prayer that we believe and pray that He will give us discernment. 4) It is a prayer that has decided to obey the will. Let's become one in this prayer and realize a healthy church. Let's wait for the grace and blessings from God. Let's also remember the yellow traffic lights that the Lord gives us. Let's pray while savoring the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12) and Matthew 7:6 as well. In this prayer, let us embody our members of one another in Christ, and wait for the grace given. Join us in the holy history.
