<Coming out of faith>

The text contains information related to the Lord's burial. The Jewish Sabbath begins at 6 p.m., 3 to 3 hours after the Lord's death on Friday. The Jews did not put the body on the cross on the Sabbath, so at the request of the Jews, the soldiers resorted to quick killing. So, the two thieves who were crucified together broke their legs and killed them completely (verse 32). Since the Lord was already dead, they did not break their legs. Instead, they pierced the Lord's side with a spear, and immediately water and blood came out (verses 33-34).

At that time, the hidden disciple who suddenly appeared like a comet was Joseph of Arimathea while the women at the bottom of the cross were rolling their feet, not knowing what to do with the body of Jesus. Although Joseph of Arimathea was a disciple of Jesus, he hid for fear of the Jews, and asked Pilate for the body of Jesus and took it. The people were astonished to see Joseph of Arimathea, a noble member of the Sanhedrin, doing so.

At that time, the Sanhedrin Council, made up of 70 members, was the supreme legislative body overseeing the legislative, administrative, and judicial branches, and its members had far greater power than the current parliamentarians. It was shocking news to people at the time that such a council member asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Of course, it must have been a lot of trouble before he found Pilate. If it was known that he was a secret disciple of Jesus, the wealth, power, and honor he had accumulated up to that point would disappear in an instant, and furthermore, he could be killed by political conspiracy.

For that reason, he hid the fact that he was the Lord's disciple, and the Lord hid that fact until he was moved by himself and revealed himself. As he did not have the faith to reveal himself as a disciple of the Lord in front of people like that, he simply watched the sufferings of the Lord, but seeing the Lord carrying the cross without any sin to the end, his faith that the Lord is the Messiah must have grown. That belief made him overcome the fear of losing his honor and power, so he risked everything and came out spiritually.

As your faith grows, you come out spiritually to reveal your faith. Disclosure of your faith may cause inconvenience to your actions, but if you courageously disclose your faith, you can change and mature even a little, and your faith will become more sincere from that point on. Now feel free to open your faith. If you say, “I can’t drink because I go to church!” It seems like it will cut off friends and cut deals, but that appearance actually gives trust and makes more sincere friends and opens up more sincere deals.

When you open up and commit to your faith, it also affects your neighbors. In fact, when Joseph of Arimathea revealed and dedicated his faith, Nicodemus, who was influenced by the appearance of his faith, and who sought the Lord early at night as a member of the council, also revealed his faith and devoted himself. So, when Joseph of Arimathea took the body of Jesus and was about to bury it in his tomb, Nicodemus also brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes and joined in the burial (verses 38-39).

Good faith is contagious. That's why one person's dedication matters. When I pray, the church members around me also pray. When I change, so do my friends and neighbors. When I am grateful, the members of my district are also grateful. When I am humble, my neighbors are also humble. If I love and forgive, the church I serve will also overflow with love and forgiveness. If I strive for missionary work and charity, my neighbors will yearn for the joy of missionary work and salvation. Wherever you go, do good things, spread good thoughts, spread good words.

Above all else, take the lead and dedicate yourself to the Lord. Like Joseph of Arimathea, when he proudly throws away what he is proud of for the Lord, the grace of the Lord overflows in his life. The reason deserts rarely rain is because there is no water vapor rising into the sky. Likewise, if there is only a sandstorm of complaints and resentment in the heart, the rain of grace will not fall, but if the vapors of blood, sweat and tears are raised to the sky, the rain of grace will overflow.
