Sermons for Preaching

I will keep the title Feast.

I will keep the feasts

The whole country was in turmoil over Na-young's incident. The raped child is physically damaged and has to endure the pain of having to defecate through the small intestine for the rest of her life. Still, the culprit doesn't seem to have done anything wrong. In the opinion of the person who committed the crime, it may be considered correct. It's possible to drink and make that much mistake, because you can think of what makes you react so terribly. It is said that he appealed to the court to lower the sentence because the 12-year sentence was heavy. There are people who do not feel very guilty about committing such a great thing.

However, those who are often called saints confessed their sins and wrote Confessions (懺悔錄). Paul also confessed that he was “the greatest of sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15). Peter, who had caught a fish with the net torn according to Jesus' words, saw the scene unfolding before him, fell at Jesus' feet and confessed, "Leave me, Lord, for I am a sinner" (Luke 5:8).

Confessions are not written by those who commit heinous crimes. On the contrary, it is written by those who are called saints in the world. It was because he realized that he had nothing to stand up for when he looked at himself before God. The same goes for repentance. Who Repents? Repentance is not something that people who always live as they please. It is done by those who are sensitive to their own sins. It is because they are conscious of the eyes of God and live under His rule.

Interesting fact is that in Matthew 25, those who entered eternal punishment asked what they did not do for the Lord, whereas those who entered eternal life said what they did for the Lord. What is the difference between those who do not admit their sins and those who are sensitive to their sins? The former live in their own flamboyance and rebel against them if they cause any harm to them. The latter, on the other hand, is that we live consciously of God above.

Faith is leaving. Unscrupulous and heretics interpret and apply everything to their advantage. The Bible understands itself in its own way. can't get out of self. Faith is leaving the world around you. That's why Jesus said that whoever wants to follow Him must deny himself and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). Although the Pharisees were religious, they did not leave the worldly way of thinking. In spite of having to leave, they remained in the world they wanted and were bound by the religious framework that established them.

God told Israel to leave Egypt. But it's not just about leaving. It was to keep the feasts (sacrifices) in the wilderness (1, 3). But did Israel even need to leave Egypt? All he had to do was stay in Egypt and serve God. Then at least you wouldn't be hungry. But why did God have to go to the wilderness to keep the feasts?

Egypt was the place where Pharaoh ruled, and humans were the center, but the wilderness was where God ruled. Even in the wilderness, if you leave Egypt and receive God's rule, that is a real blessing. Obviously, the wilderness is a worse environment than Egypt. Wouldn't it be great if you could serve God in Egypt? But Israel had to leave for the wilderness, where they had to offer sacrifices to God. Israel had to leave Pharaoh's rule and offer sacrifices.

Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh in Egypt and communicated God's intention to let Israel go. So how did Pharaoh react? ‘Yeah, go ahead. Serve God diligently.' no. “I do not know Jehovah,” he said. This does not mean lack of knowledge of Jehovah, but rather an expression of indifference and disregard. It's like we say to someone we don't like, 'I don't know a person like you.'

Egyptian thought, ‘Who is the Lord? I do not know Jehovah.’ So what does the world look like? We do not tolerate anything that gets in the way of making money. At that time, Israel was a cheap labor force in Egypt. They were the kind of people who only had to provide food. From Pharaoh's point of view, the loss of such cheap labor could not be left unattended. The loss of labor power leads to a decrease in productivity, and a decrease in productivity leads to a loss of power. As a result, their position in the world is lowered. In this way, the Egyptian idea is to rely on and secure what is visible.

In today's society, everything is connected with money. Because economic power is power. So, family relationships are broken because of money, and friendships are often made enemies because of money. But the problem is that even the church rides on the ideology of this world. The evidence of blessing is centered around money. Then, no matter how faithful you are to God, if you do not earn money and live in poverty, you are considered to have no faith (?).

Israel, too, was full of such thoughts. So at first Moses went to Egypt, preached the word of God and performed miracles before the people of Israel. When they heard that the people believed in the Lord and that the Lord had found the children of Israel and looked at their suffering, they bowed their heads and worshiped (4:29-) 31).

However, when he said that he was leaving Egypt, Pharaoh made Israel even more tormented. The Israelites then turned their anger on Moses and Aaron. Israel's idea of God's salvation did not match their thoughts. It was then that he began to confide in him (21).

There is a different kind of salvation people want. Humans demand something completely different from the salvation that God wants. So they leave the church when they don't match what they want. Any god, whether Jehovah or anyone, who causes harm and suffering to him, is a bad god. The salvation people want is not the dimension of eternal life, but the ability to live comfortably while maintaining this earth. Such an earthly way of thinking nailed Jesus, the Son of God in heaven, to death on the cross. The life of faith should be the work of giving up the thoughts of the world and putting the Word into us. God revealed the shame and pain of our ancestors through the Bible. By doing so, he made known what faith is.

Therefore, I beseech you, brethren, in the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you Let us discern what is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:1-2).

In this way, faith is leaving the world and looking to God. God led Israel out of Egypt and into the wilderness to make them realize that faith is to look only to God.

It is not faith to be kind to people who donate a lot from a person's point of view and to be rude to those who don't. A true Christian is a sacrificer. He is a person who kneels in gratitude for being able to look up at the sky despite being insignificant in the sight of God. They are those who deny themselves, and they are the church that realizes their existence and confesses that they are sinners.
