Text: John 15:4-5
Today's Word: I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man abides in me, and I remain in him, he bears much fruit. You cannot do anything apart from me. (Verse 5)
Did you watch soccer yesterday? How many did you win? Say the name of the scorer as you remember. Who scored the 4th goal? But, no matter how talented and great these players are, would they have been able to score goals if coach Cha Bum-geun hadn't put them into the game? A player from a team can never play in a match. No matter how talented you are, you can't score goals.
Now, here's a tree branch. what kind of tree is it? It's a chestnut tree. Will this twig open at night or not? Why? Why would it wither? This is because it is not attached to the original stem and has fallen off. Branches that fall off the main trunk of a tree die quickly. And, it cannot bear fruit. It's like a player missing from a soccer team can't score.
However, there is a similar story in today's sermon. In verse 5, who is the vine? I. who am i It is in John 14:23. Jesus, right? But who is Gaji? Ok. it's us What if we as branches are not in Jesus as the tree and we are apart? Die like this tree. However, if Jesus is not in me and we are attached to Jesus, we will live. And, according to the Word, what about this person? bears much fruit. What is the fruit here? A good person, a beautiful heart, a loving heart, a forgiving heart, a joyful heart, a helping heart, etc.
Some of my friends just study hard to become a great person. Some of my friends play computer games because they want to have fun. Some of my friends go to several academies. However, you can't be great with these things alone. There is only one way we can be great people. There is only one way to live a happy and fun life. What is it? It's in Jesus. Jesus who saved us from all our sins, loved us, and made it possible for us to love one another.
Even if you don't believe in Jesus and study hard and attend several academies, you will not become a great person and become happy. Read the last sentence of verse 5. Ok. We cannot do anything apart from Jesus. Like this dead tree branch. We want all our friends to become good children who bear a lot of good fruit because they are attached to Jesus.
