Let the title be glory (1 Peter 4:1-11)
Contents
When victory is the goal, you experience failure, but when you live your life doing your best for the glory of God, miraculous things happen. Peter teaches that there are many things that a Christian will face, but let them all be to the glory of God.
First, suffer (v. 1) and be glorified. Suffering is understood as a process of sanctification, and experience gives us victory, but only the cross of dying to sin and living in righteousness is the glory. Through the sufferings of the cross, Jesus made it impossible to ask any more questions about sin. He solved the problem of sin at once by bearing the sufferings of the flesh with the heart of fulfilling the Father's will. We fail if we try to endure hardships on our own, but if we take on the armor in the name of Jesus, God's will will be done through us.
Second, let it be reproached (v. 4) and be glorified. Those who run with the lusts of men to the extreme of licentiousness will marvel and accuse those who do not. It is difficult to endure criticism, but God, who judges by their actions, accepts their accusations as the righteous testimony of the saints. If you are afraid of criticism, you will fail, but if you obey the guidance of the Holy Spirit, it will be revealed to you in a glorious life.
Third, cover sin (v. 8) and make it a glory. The God of love solved the sins of all mankind at once by giving up his only begotten Son on the cross. Just as love forgave sins, God's glory is revealed only when a multitude of sins are covered with love. As a person living in the few days left, we must be sober, pray, and love from death to salvation. God receives the glory of those who are being saved by serving them with hospitality, without murmuring, and by serving as a steward with the gifts they have received.
He is glorified through those who speak as God speaks and serve with the power that God supplies. It is not because of our hard work and effort, but because of Jesus Christ. Then all glory and power belong to the Father forever. Amen.
