More earnestly refrain from hearing the title
more earnestly refrain from what you hear
(Hebrews 2:1-4)
Hebrews 2:1 says, “Therefore, let us more earnestly take heed of all that we have heard.” Paul, who wrote this book of Hebrews, showed the great glory of Christ in Chapter 1. His Son, Jesus Christ, whom God has given us, is the one who has spoken to us in the last days of all these days as his Son, who is the heir of all things that God has established, and, speaking of his Son, is the Creator of all the worlds, and this One Jesus is the radiance of God's glory, the image of His very nature, the true God who upholds all things with the word of His power, who purifies sin and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God in high heaven. Not only that, but this One, Jesus, is clearly showing that he is the Creator of the angels in heaven, the One who ministers to them, and the One who is worshiped by all angels.
1. What did we hear?
Christ, who gave us salvation, is so great. The salvation that God has given us is such a great salvation. So, as we hear the words of Christ from time to time, we should be careful not to let them flow down to our hearts. Salvation comes from the knowledge of Christ.
What we have heard is thus the correct knowledge of the Son. Jesus said in John 17:3, “This is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” How, then, can we know such knowledge? As you mentioned in verse 3, it is said that he spoke mainly in the beginning. And those who personally heard the word confirmed it to us. And God also testified with signs and wonders and various powers, and it is said that he testified by the distribution of the Holy Spirit.
(1) The evidence of such salvation was recorded only in the Bible by the Holy Spirit. In any case, no other gospel can show us the right way of salvation through Christ, which appears outside the Bible, or the gospel outside the Bible.
(2) The next Christ recorded in the Bible can only be realized through the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. No matter how knowledgeable a person may be, if they do not understand the Bible, they cannot know anything about Christ.
(3) Next, we will come to the right knowledge as we are led by the Holy Spirit. The spirit of delusion leads us down the path of delusion and leads us into heresy, but the Holy Spirit leads us into the truth. In John 14:17, he said, “The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. Only those who have received this Spirit will realize the truth. God said that He would send the Spirit of truth to make His people aware of this truth.
2. What we heard is the Word of God.
The next thing we heard is the word of God spoken through the Son. Regarding these words, in verse 1 he said, “I am afraid that it will flow away.” The Lord said, 'He who does not love me will not keep my words; and the words you hear are not mine, but the words of the Father who sent me.' The words of Jesus and the words of the Father are the same. Because Jesus came into the world and revealed all the will of the Father.
Then, what is the most important purpose that God wants to tell us? In John 6:40, Jesus said, “My Father’s will is that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” What God wants is not to believe in the Father and the Son separately, or to believe or know them separately, but only to know the Son, believe in the Son, and worship the Son. He said that as a result, it would bring glory to the Father. Because the Father and the Son are one and one God. Please find the words of John 12:44-45.
The most important thing to keep in mind when we hear the Word is not to let it flow away. The word to not let it go is to keep it deeply. The one who keeps the knowledge of Christ in his heart like this is the one who possesses the mystery of faith.
To cherish the Word of God deeply, you must first listen to the Word of God. Isaiah 55:3 says, “Incline your ear and come to me and hear.”
Next, the ears that hear the word of God must be those that have been circumcised. Jeremiah 6:10 says that uncircumcised ears cannot hear the word of God. In order to receive the word of God so that it does not flow down next time, you must receive it with your heart. In Ezekiel 3:10, God said to Ezer, “Listen with your ears, that you may receive all the words I say to you with your heart.”
Conclusion: Ladies and gentlemen, the salvation God has given us is so precious. This salvation can only be received and kept by realizing the Word of God. What is the use of abstaining from this and fasting, and of what benefit will it be of receiving gifts? I bless you that God's grace to us and the wisdom of knowing Christ may spread his faith rightly.
