Sermons for Preaching

One title is enough / Luke 10:38-42

Description The Lunar New Year holiday is the most enjoyable day of the year along with Chuseok. However, there are people who find this day burdensome. They are mainly elderly people living alone in rural areas. It is certainly a joy to meet children and grandchildren living in the city, but when the children get together, they often argue with each other over the issue of parental support. So these older people become depressed because they think their existence is a burden to their children. It is said that some people have a desire that their children do not come to visit at all. It is the heart of parents who care about their children. The same is true of an old man in Seoul who committed suicide because he no longer wanted to burden his dwarf son. Homeless children in orphanages or elderly people in nursing homes feel lonely because there are no people to visit, but it is a burden to have someone come to them. It should be fun to have a good day like this, but often it's not.

Martha invited Jesus and his disciples to their home. Obviously she loved Jesus. And I was excited to be with him and to be able to listen to him and provide hospitality. They thought they were sure to have a great time. But the text tells us that on that good day, Martha became upset. Why?

First, Martha did not have the peace of mind.

“Martha was busy with many preparations” (verse 40).

Martha's heart was busy. Jesus' visit to her home was not promised in advance. It is true that Martha requested a visit, but it was spontaneously met with the Lord on the same day. Still, she vowed to dress up nicely. What a good decision! She did this and that and... she had a lot of plans for the food. And I started doing a lot. But the problem was that I didn't have time. There is not much time, but there is much to do. I don't think this is the biggest cause of stress for people.

Such a person is easily irritable. If your heart is in a hurry, your actions will also be hasty. Of course things can't go smoothly. I'm annoyed because it doesn't work. Martha did. Still, the younger sister, Maria, does not intend to leave the room. I sat at Jesus' feet and kept listening to what he was saying. In anger, Martha ran to Jesus and said, "Lord, don't you think that my sister leaves me to work alone? Command me to help me." What did Martha do? She rebuked the Lord. It is a command from the Lord what to do. The Lord did not come to Martha's house to be rebuked. The Lord didn't express his feelings, but he couldn't have been in a good mood.

If you do anything with a hasty heart, you will make mistakes like this, and the results will not be good. That's why it's important to have peace of mind. Having a peace of mind is about calming the mind. If you have a stable mind, you can think about everything calmly, and you can increase the efficiency of work by not making mistakes even when working. The way to have peace of mind is to think everything in order. No matter how urgent it is, think calmly. If we look around us, we see some people doing the same thing, but floundering every day. It's not that I'm good at work or that I don't do a lot. Let's live life with more peace of mind. Things that aren't supposed to go well can't be done in haste. But there's a difference between being calm and being lazy. The first and second way to deal with the task given to you calmly and well is to have peace of mind.

What was the problem with Martha? A decision to do well is a good thing. It's good to be determined to do it well. However, they could not plan and carry out the work that was worthy of it in their spare time. I was just thinking "a lot of a lot".

It is because of this kind of tension that people who cannot afford to relax their mind. The violin or guitar strings are released when they are not playing. Otherwise, if it is left for a long time, it may break or stretch and it will not be able to maintain its elasticity, so it will not be able to produce its own notes. The same goes for the hunter's bow. Leave the cord loose when not in use.

Second, Martha didn't choose what was really important.

Jesus gave a valuable lesson to Martha, who was busy with her heart. “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled over many things, but a few or even one is sufficient.

Not everything has the same weight, but there are good things and bad things, important things and not so important things. It is said that it is better to be good at at least one thing than to get discouraged by trying to do everything after doing many things.

When Martha became so engrossed in her affairs, she forgot the most important thing. Inviting Jesus into his home was to please him. Then, pleasing the Lord should be the most important thing. Of course, you can please the Lord by serving good food. However, it is never possible to please the Lord if you say something like a scornful expression in front of a hospitality and valuable guest.

The Lord was pleased to teach. The Lord was pleased to see Mary sitting and listening to Him. When we regularly take time to quietly listen to God's Word, we will realize what really matters.

According to Dr. Stefan Kavi, there are four areas of time management. The first area is to spend time on things that are neither important nor urgent, most of them for pleasure. The second area is a non-essential but urgent task, which is what most people pay attention to because it stands out. The third area is an area where most of the problems are solved because it is important and urgent, and the last area is not urgent but important, mainly preparing for the future.

Most people spend their lives clinging to the third realm, important and urgent tasks, or the second realm, urgent tasks. Putting out fires, sticking to what's popular with people, and focusing only on solving problems. However, leaders in the pursuit of creative self-development spend significant time on things that are not urgent but important. For example, studying, praying, investing in fertility, taking care of your health, building your character, etc. are not urgent, but very important. In particular, if you want to fulfill a bigger mission in the future and live a happy life, you must become a person who prepares for tomorrow.

The categories of work that are important include those that contribute to personal growth, build self-esteem, bring happiness, and help you reach your life goals. Many very important things are neglected because they are not urgent. For example, taking a course that guarantees a promotion, getting regular comprehensive checkups every year or regular checkups at the dentist, studying the Bible every day, losing weight, etc.

Many people confuse urgent with important. Michael Leboev said, "When you are faced with a lot of problems, ask yourself which problems are really important. And make them your number one priority. If you are dominated by the most urgent Your life will continue to be at stake."

The urgent need not be dealt with. just have to do it just have to

A method that relies entirely on habit is the worst way to determine how to use time.

1) I need to organize my work in order to have more time in my mind. It is necessary to do it, even if it is something I must do, whether it is an important task or an urgent task, so it is necessary to reduce the number of tasks. A few things or even one thing is enough.

2) You need to take a break. Rest should not be considered a waste of time.

3) You must learn the Word of God.

2. I didn't think about what was important.

3. I didn't have a priority.

I did not know the difference between urgent and important work

1. Martha welcomed Jesus into her home.

2. Martha was busy preparing a lot of things in order to serve Jesus well.

3. Martha should have a joyful and joyful heart, but instead she began to complain about her younger sister and also complained to Jesus.

He is not pleased to be entertained as much as we do. Rather, he is delighted to have time for us to converse with him. It delights us to hear from him.

I may say that I am working hard for the Lord in my own way, but the Lord may not be pleased.

Do you worry and worry about many things?

Even if I prepare a few things, it is enough for me.

Just one thing is enough for me.

Was the good thing Mary chose to listen to the Lord?

When the president goes to work, the secretary usually holds an event schedule or a phone memo and asks for an appointment. Looking at the schedule, there is so much to do. Attending meetings, listening to business trip reports, site inspections, visiting guests, business lunches, visiting buyers, attending ceremonial occasions, dental treatment, etc...

Therefore, in order to use the limited time effectively, it is necessary to assign a priority (priority). Usually, the president is given the privilege of choosing in the order he or she prefers. This is the privilege of the strong and is called the lion's share. However, when a crisis occurs, the selection criteria of priorities should not be determined by Lions shares. Rather, you must make the reverse selection in the order you hate it. This leadership duty is called noblesse oblige.

Let's say our old scholar's house caught fire. The first priority to rescue was the ancestor's god stock. It was our scholar's priority that a mere piece of wood was given priority over living and breathing life.

Kang Hae-soo, a scholar of Ganghwa, took a cigarette and went to the slave market in Shenyang, Manchuria, to repay the kidnapped mother, brother, and son. However, as the price of cigarettes plummeted, there was only money available to repay the two of them. Her mother had already passed away and she only had Shinju, but the Mongols, who knew that Joseon people valued Shinju more than those who bought it, put the same price on Shinju as those who bought it.

At this time, the priorities chosen by the Joseon scholar Kang Hae-soo were Shinju and Au. It was the noblesse oblige of our scholars who were able to abandon their son, whom he wanted to choose first, in a wasteland and turn around.

During the Vietnam War, it was called "Captain's Cemetery" in the United States. This is because 12% of the total deaths in the U.S. were due to the forward commander, captain. In the American and European armies, the captain was devoted to noblesse oblige, where he had to fight in the position with the highest probability of death.

The reason that 700 of the 2,200 passengers were saved from the sinking luxury cruise ship Titanic was because of this captain's noble spirit of obedience and thorough priority. A 60-meter hole in the hull was hit by a floating iceberg, and water rushed into the cabin in an instant.

At that time, there were only 1,000 lifeboats, so the captain sent the women on board first, then the elderly, saying, "I can't let my short life end like this." burned to life

At the crossroads of life and death, it is a moving scene that will remain forever in human history to obey the captain's orders without any resistance. Of course, the captain was able to survive, and even though he screamed to come down from the side of the living, he dared to stand on the side of the dead.
