Text: Matthew 6:19-24
Title: No one can serve two masters.
There cannot be two suns under the same sky, and there cannot be two kings in one kingdom. Then, even those who serve the king should not have a double heart. However, most people are serving two masters. Among them, especially the Jews who said they believed in God, and Christians who say they believe in Jesus are doing it today. They speak as if they believe in God with their mouths, but in their hearts they are still serving their master, a dead spirit (ghost).
It is a well-known fact that the Jews were still serving the devil while calling on the name of Jehovah God. To the Jews who were trying to kill him, Jesus said, “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he cannot stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. He is a liar and the father of lies!” (John 8:44) can be seen.
The Jews at that time would have had a hard time accepting these words of Jesus, but this is an undeniable fact. Then why did the Jews go to the temple in Jerusalem to die for two thousand years, slaughtering cattle and slaughtering sheep and offering sacrifices to God, but Jesus did not call such people children of God, but children of the devil?
The reason is simple. The only way to become a child of God is to receive forgiveness of sins and be born again through His Son, whom God has sent. However, most of the Jews did not accept Jesus as the Son of God. As a result, they did not want to believe in Jesus as their Savior. At that time, if they did not believe in Jesus, there was no way for them to be forgiven of their own sins and original sins. However, they were mistaken for the forgiveness of all their sins by slaughtering cattle and sheep and offering them to God.
When Jesus saw these people, he did not hesitate to tell them that they were the children of the devil. So what about Christians today? The phenomenon of the Jews has not yet occurred to Christians because God has never sent His Son to the Christians, but it is a fire in the eyes of Christians that if God sends His Son, they will act like the Jews. it is obvious as you can see
Christians will also believe that all their sins are forgiven because they have offered all kinds of worship in the name of Jesus until now. And you will believe that you have been born again into Christ by receiving the Holy Spirit. Even if the sins committed unknowingly remain, he would surely believe that he would go to heaven after his death because Jesus died for all of his sins.
But this is a saying that one knows and the other does not. The Jews went to God so earnestly and offered all kinds of sacrifices, did not extort other people's things like the holy people of God, and they had never committed any iniquity or injustice. And he was zealous enough to fast twice a week and give tithing 6/10 of his total income. Nevertheless, they did not reach eternal life. It was because they did not believe in the Son God sent and did not receive the forgiveness of sins.
If it would have been possible for humans to be born again by offering some kind of sacrifice (worship) before God, there would be no need for God to send His Son again in front of people. Such actions are only a model of the Christ who is to come, and since such actions do not blot out human sins, we must believe in the Son God sent to us, so that human sins can be blotted out.
Likewise, even if Christians today go to chapels and worship in the name of Jesus every day, pay tithing, and do all kinds of loyal service, these actions will not blot out the sins hidden in the hearts of men. In order to receive the forgiveness of sins hidden in their hearts, Christians must believe in the Son sent by God to be born again into Christ. Until then, no one can attain eternal life.
If there is anyone who mistakenly believes that the Holy Spirit, which he received through faith in Jesus, is the Spirit of Christ and believes that the Lord is in him as well, that he has been saved, he is being completely deceived. The Holy Spirit is not the Spirit of Christ, but the Spirit of the essence of God (Matthew 10:20). The work of the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of Christ is also different. The Holy Spirit does not break man's free will, but the Son limits man's free will. As the evidence, when a person who has received the Holy Spirit intends to commit some terrible sin, the Holy Spirit does not break that person's free will. But those who disobey the Holy Spirit must stand before God's terrible judgment seat in the end.
But the Lord (Christ) limits man's free will. If the Lord is in the human heart, He prevents us from sinning without mercy. Also, the Lord does not allow humans to live as they please. This is evidence that the Lord limits human free will. Therefore, those who have been born again through Christ cannot live as they please. However, those who have received the Holy Spirit can do whatever they please and live. That is why those who have received the Holy Spirit tremble as if they will remove both of their eyes at first, but then they become corrupted in the same way as when they did it.
Therefore, Jews must believe in the Son of God sent before the Jews to receive the forgiveness of sins and reach eternal life, and Christians must believe in the Son of God who is sent to Christians to receive forgiveness of sins and reach eternal life. In the Old Testament, Isaac appears as Abraham's son, and he symbolizes the Christ who will come before the Israelites, and Jacob, who appears as Isaac's son, symbolizes the Christ who will be sent to the Gentiles in the future.
If we believe that there are no passages in the Bible without reason, Christians should believe and accept the Son of God who will come like this. Only then can all Gentiles and Christians be forgiven of their sins and enter eternal life. The saying “one man cannot serve two masters” is referring to this very fact. Even when Christians call on the name of Jesus with their mouths, unless Christ is in their hearts, he is calling his master (dead spirit). it's just
We call Christ Lord. But some people even call God Lord. There are places in the Bible where God is translated and called as Lord. However, this is clearly an incorrect expression, and it is the ignorance of those who do not know anything. God is a spirit and cannot enter directly into the human heart. So God does not limit human free will. However, because God is the Father of all spirits, anyone in this world, including unbelievers, can call God the Father. However, not everyone can become a child of God just because everyone calls God their Father.
Without the spirit of the Son sent by God in the heart of man, God will never recognize such a person as His Son. God asks, “Are the robes ready for my son’s wedding feast?” The robe he is talking about at this time is asking, “Are sins forgiven because of my son?” If the Spirit of Christ is in my heart, there will be no hesitation in doing anything like that. But if the Spirit of the Son is not in my heart, no matter how many times he calls on the name of the Lord, he is only calling on his master (dead spirit) in his heart.
The saying that no one can serve two masters also applies here. It is not wrong at all to call on the name of the Lord if the Spirit of Christ is in their heart. Being deceived by himself, such a person eventually serves his master (dead spirits and demons whose sins have not been forgiven), and calls on the name of Christ only with their mouths, so it is like serving two masters.
The Lord said about these people, “No one can serve two masters.” However, Jews at that time and Christians today have a completely different understanding of these words. For example, Jews believed in Jehovah God and worshiped different gods as serving two masters, and Christians today also mistakenly believe that they are serving two masters because they believe in Jesus and spying on other religions.
We need to deeply recall the words of Jesus when he said, “Even if Christ is here or there, do not go; Christ is in your heart.” Those who properly understand the meaning of these words of Jesus will look back at who is in their heart at least once, but those who do not will not care at all what evil people exist in their hearts.
