people who force
John 6:13-15
On March 11th, Japan suffered a major disaster due to an earthquake and tsunami. Although it is a country with many earthquakes originally, it is said to be the largest earthquake in the history of observation. The bitterness of losing everything in an instant is truly heartbreaking.
In John 5, Jesus healed a 38-year-old man in Bethesda, the house of grace. Jesus, who heals the sick on the Sabbath, is the One who restores true rest. It was said that that Sabbath was realized through the resurrection of Christ, and that Sunday replaced the Sabbath of creation.
And in Chapter 6, the miracle of the five diseases appears. Jesus fed 5,000 people with 5 barley loaves and 2 fish. He gave them what they wanted and made them eat to their fullness. Even then, it was left in 12 baskets.
And each person understands Jesus from his own point of view. So, the conclusion that comes out is the reaction of people in today's text. After the miracle, people started looking for Jesus. Because he was forced to take him and make him his king. But Jesus escaped. It is natural that Jesus, who came as the King of kings, will become their King. Why did you avoid it? Because he knew well why they wanted to make him king.
The bread of Jesus' five fish refers to Jesus Himself. In 6:48 he says, “I am the bread of life” and in verse 51 he says, “I am the bread that I will give and my flesh for life.” When the Jews heard this, they were bewildered. I couldn't understand it at all.
In Matthew 14:19, the same five diseases are recorded. After giving thanks, he broke the bread and gave it to the disciples. In Matthew 26:26 there is a scene of the sacrament. He took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to the disciples. The bread is the body of Christ, and he broke it and gave it to the disciples. That symbolic event is the miracle of five diseases. He broke the loaves and fed them to 5,000 people, but he ate them as they wanted, and there were still 12 kwangju. Jesus cut off his own flesh to feed us, and the giving of life is abundant, but to what extent it is enough to feed everyone as they please. The event of Jesus breaking the bread and feeding it depicts the breaking of flesh by dying on the cross. So Jesus Himself broke the loaves and fed them, but he gave them as they wished and said, “I am the bread of life.” However, not only the gathered Jews, but also the disciples did not know what this meant.
Can you serve Jesus but serve Jesus without Jesus? This makes no sense, but the Jews did. I thought that this person would make bread on the spot, feed the hungry, and show tremendous power and miracles if Jesus was with him. If there is only Jesus, everything is OK. So, “Be King!” This is what it is. It was so hard and great that when Jesus avoided him, he persistently went looking for him. To make him a king by force (6:24-25).
To such a crowd, the Lord says, “You seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate the loaves and were satisfied.” The reason these people want to make Jesus their king is because they eat and are full.
Why do we serve and follow Jesus? What profit do I have? Do you not seek and serve Jesus for it? Aren't you discouraged and frustrated if you don't get it? But Jesus never came to this earth to make bread. Rather, he says that man does not live by bread alone. It's not that eating and drinking isn't important.
There are more important things about priorities.
Believing in the Lord requires focusing on His needs and purposes before filling my stomach with His power.
What do we ask of Jesus and what do we hope for? Are you granting the conditions to eat, wear, and live more comfortably on this earth? So, if you have Jesus as your king, you are in trouble.
Serving Jesus should not be a means to gain things on this earth. Rather, they are suffering together because of Jesus. This should be joy and joy. This is more important than believing in Jesus and becoming full and rich. It is because of him that we live, we have hope, and we can live in grace.
What is the intention of the crowds demanding that Jesus be king today? Even though Jesus Christ is already our true King, they are trying to establish a political king for self-satisfaction, for economic solutions.
Knowing that people were trying to force Jesus to be king, Jesus went to the mountain alone. You're not even with them. Even Jesus does not want to serve something that is not His intentions. If we love to eat bread and serve Jesus, then we are not ruled by God. If we can be satisfied and serve Jesus, then something is wrong.
We are made rich by His rending of flesh. By breaking the bread, that is, by tearing it, we have life. I should thank the Lord for giving me such grace. We should not make Jesus the King who satisfies us, but rather make Him the King who rules over us.
