Prayer at will (1 John 5:14-15)
When you look at a tree, you know that it also has properties. Where do the roots go? There are properties that point downwards. The roots do not point towards the sky. I want to go further down, only to the ground. Where do the stems, on the other hand, have their properties? It has upward-facing properties. I keep trying to cover it up. I'm going to head to a sunny place. It is a property of plants.
Our human nature is similar. We also have two properties. What are human instinctual desires for? towards the world. I keep trying to find things on earth. This is the nature of the flesh. Therefore, if the lusts of the flesh are left unattended, they will continue to go toward worldly things.
But what are the spiritual attributes? I keep looking for something above. I keep trying to move upwards, toward the eternal. You can't be satisfied with just being on the ground. You will be satisfied when you eat the above. So, if you look at the Bible, this is the story. Instead of living according to the instincts of the world and the instincts of the body, we are told to live according to spiritual desires and spiritual desires.
I think prayer is the same. Prayer is a holy act. But you have to remember this. If we make a mistake when we pray, there is a high possibility that the prayer itself will become a prayer that we seek according to human greed and lust.
For example, we pray a lot, but why are we not getting answers? Let's look at James 4:2-3. What is the reason that prayers are not answered? Because he prayed with lust. Because I prayed with my lust and my desire.
Perhaps many of our prayers were such greedy prayers. Why? Because that's our nature. This is because we are accustomed to instinctively taking care of our own desires and greed. Please take a moment to seriously examine your prayers so far.
What kind of prayer was my prayer? I prayed in the name of God, but did you not follow my greed and desires? Wasn't it because we prayed with greed that we couldn't receive answers? Please check.
1. If so, what kind of prayer will be answered? (1 John 5:14).
Let's look at today's text. What kind of prayer is the prayer that is answered? It is a prayer asking for the will of the Father. If you ask according to the Father's will, you will receive an answer. If you know what your father wants and pray, you will receive answers. It's such a simple principle.
My father is thinking like this, but if he ignores everything and asks for whatever he wants, no matter how much he prays, that prayer is out of focus. It is like a prayer hitting the air.
To open the door, you have to insert the key properly to open it. If you plug it upside down, it won't open no matter how much you plug it in. Just as the door does not open no matter how hard you try without turning the key correctly, no matter how much you pray according to your thoughts and methods, regardless of the will of the Father, you may not receive an answer. From now on, even if you pray, I hope you will pray according to the will of the Father. What is more important than praying hard and praying a lot is to ask for the Father's will.
2. How can we know the Father's will?
Simple. All you have to do is pray with the Bible. Because the Bible is God's will for us. If you want to know the will of the Father, just open the Bible. The entire Bible is full of the Father's will. Therefore, the best prayer is to pray from the Bible. From now on, when you pray, please pray with the Bible. Please pray with the Word.
How do you pray with the Word? I hope you use the words you know, the verses you memorize, or the truths you have learned, and the sermons you have heard, all of which are used in your prayers. Let it become a habit. The truth we learned while studying the Bible, it should not end there. When you pray, please pray with that content. And on Sundays, Wednesdays, and every morning, there is the Word I heard. Pray with those words.
Let's take last week's sermon as an example. I gave a sermon on the subject of false faith. There were several things. He told them to defeat false prophets. And he told me to separate out the false beliefs in me and throw them away. He told us to resist the temptation to believe easily and comfortably, and to believe properly and accurately. Then, when you pray, you are praying with the contents as it is.
You can tell by looking at the fruit. Then, when we pray, we pray as we do. With that word, you can pray for reflection and repentance, and pray for supplication. God! Do I really have Christian fruits? If not, pray for forgiveness. I want you to check whether my faith is a dead faith or a sick faith. And I hope that you will pray that you will lead a life of faith that bears abundant fruit.
We also learned how to pray through Matthew 7:7. I said I would give it to you if you ask for it. Then when you pray, God! Didn't you say you would give it to me if you ask? Praying while quoting these words. All prayers must be prayed with the Word or with the content and spirit of the Word. Otherwise, our prayers are likely to fall into our greed.
It's not just prayer. When making any decision, there must be a word from God to guide it. We must be guided by the Word while praying. A decision made without the guidance of the Word is most likely a decision made according to one's own thoughts. That is why we should always pray for guidance in the Word when we pray.
And we must continue to meditate on the Word while praying. So, I would like to ask, what guides you when someone tells you that they have made a certain decision? There must be a word. You must get into this habit. Specially, you have received all the promises this year. You must pray with these words.
There are a lot of times when I am really surprised when I go to an atrium. How could God give such a word to that person? That's right. God has given me the words I need. Therefore, whenever you pray, you should meditate on this verse and pray with the contents of this verse. Hold on to the promise and pray. And pray that you can live by the Word. Then I believe that God will surely give you an answer.
3. There are good things to pray with the Word in this way.
1) If you pray according to your will, you can pray boldly and boldly (verse 14).
2) If we pray according to our will, we can be sure of answers (verse 15).
How wonderful it is to be able to pray boldly and confidently while praying to God. But you can do that. If you pray with the word of promise, you can do it confidently. There is a way for children to get their parents stuck.
When parents make promises to them, they get stuck. Daddy promised! Then you can't stand still. And if you hold on to the promise and pray, you will have confidence. Therefore, there is joy and peace in prayer. Because you obviously know it will be answered. So, every time you pray, you have hope. I am excited and looking forward to it. This is the blessing of praying according to your will. I hope that this year, everyone can enjoy the joy of prayer and the blessing of answering prayers through praying according to this will.
