Priority of time use
(Matthew 22:37-39)
If you give people 3,1536,000 won and say, “Use whatever you want for a year. However, I will recover all the remaining money.” What would you do? Maybe everyone thinks through before spending money and spends it where it's most valuable. That way, you won't be wasting your money and you won't regret it later.
In fact, money here is time. One hour equals 3,600 seconds, one day equals 86,400 seconds, and one year equals 31,536,000 seconds. So, people have a bankbook in which 86,400 won is deposited every day, like the goose that lays golden eggs every day. However, there is no balance left in the account after one day. What's left just disappears every night.
Poet Namjo Kim's poem, "Time is more precious than gold," shows how precious time, which is as small as a grain of rice, should be cherished.
The words of Ephesians 5:16, “Spend the time, for the times are evil” also indicate how much work Christians living in the end times have to do, and therefore how much time they should save.
One of the last things to happen is wasting time. At the end of the Roman Empire, many people wasted their time on sports and sex. However, the people who really waste time are those who work hard and busy for something other than God. No matter how busy you think you are, if you are wasting time in the sight of God, you are wasting your time. So, how can we efficiently manage our time within the amount of time that God has given to all people equally?
1. How to prioritize time:
Bible Teachings for Efficient Use of Time
Those who study time management methods divide time into four categories.
First, it is time to invest in urgent and important work. There is no problem here. Yes, because it brings good results for everyone.
Second, it is time to invest in things that are neither important nor urgent. You are investing your mind and time in excessive entertainment. This is a very foolish use of time in the sight of God.
Third, it is not important to use your time on urgent tasks. A typical example is answering a phone call. This is a case where you spend a lot of time on the phone even though it is not important to you.
Fourth, invest your time in things that are important but not urgent. Someone said, "Do you have time?" When you ask me about it - because I have no other appointments - it's a case of thinking that I have time. It is a case where you should not waste time that is being used for other tasks without an appointment without an appointment.
The culture of war, poverty, chaos, and entrance exams we experienced provided an element of struggle for survival. As a result, short-sighted vision has been given to us. I was obsessed with the immediate results and made me spend time only on them. But the biblical way to manage time is to spend time on important things, even if it doesn't seem urgent right now. These include devotional training, exercise, the development of good character, and constant investment in reproduction. Spending time on things that are not overtly urgent, but important, is the biblical way to manage time God wants you to do.
For this you need to make good use of your morning hours. If you wake up late, you are not in a hurry, but it is because you give up on something important. You should have a productive fellowship with God in the morning. This is the basis for effective time management in the Lord.
2. Principles for prioritizing time use:
Decide what's important
It is very important to ask an expert in the planning and execution of any work.
A few years ago, Korea's World Cup Organizing Committee invested hundreds of millions of dollars to plant Mugunghwa as a way to promote Korea. However, I found out later that the flowering period of Mugunghwa was after the World Cup was over. This is a good example of a mistake you didn't ask the experts. When you are diagnosed by a specialist, things may seem slow at first, but then it becomes faster.
A generator at the Ford Motor Company in Detroit has broken down. Several people were mobilized, but the generator could not be fixed. So, I turned to the best expert of the generator at the time, who was famous for having to pay a lot of money. This expert fixed the generator in 15 minutes with a single hammer.
Experts pinpoint the problem and fix it. You should leave the problems of your life to that expert.
The expert in life is God the Holy Spirit. Many people don't take the time to ask the experts in life. Everyone does what they have in mind. But the question is, do you do it on your own terms, or do you go out before God to pray to Him and do what He wants you to do?
Philippians 2:13 says, "It is God who works in you, to will and to do for his good pleasure." It is the content that God breathes into us according to the will that pleases us, and causes us to act according to that will. This is the meaning of waiting and listening to God even if it is slow. God responds to those who try to discern God's will.
Zephaniah 3:17 says, "The LORD your God is in your midst, the Almighty to save. He will rejoice over you with joy, he will quietly love you, he will rejoice over you with singing and rejoicing." It means that God will be pleased with those who look to God and ask God's will, even if they are slow.
Proverbs 16:1 says, "The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of a word comes from the LORD." There are many plans in our mind, but it is with God that they are approved. You have to ask God from the beginning. You shouldn't notify God later after you've made your own decisions.
Proverbs 16:2 says that many people mistakenly believe that their conduct is clean. That's why we don't ask God first, we just notify God.
The words of Proverbs 16:3, “Commit your affairs to the Lord, and your plans will come to pass” means to ask all things before God from the beginning and entrust all the plans of your heart to God.
As the text says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37) and “Love your neighbor” (Matthew 22:39), Our lives will be different if we are determined to love God with all our heart and soul and to love our neighbors. In the relationship with God who loves God, and in the relationship with the neighbor who loves neighbor, there is the secret of being “I”. In this loving relationship with God and neighbor, I have a life's mission toward myself. It saves souls.
The Bible's teaching for efficient use of time is to dedicate time to things that are not urgent but important. To do this, make good use of your morning hours. The priority in all life is the Lord. Fellowship with the Lord should be prioritized over time. You should not be busy with your work. We must entrust everything to the Holy Spirit, who is the expert in life. Our goal in life is to live as a missionary who pleases the Lord. Our mission is discovered when we love God and our neighbor with all our heart, soul, and mind. It saves souls.
