Sermons for Preaching

Rejoice in the title Feast. /Deuteronomy 16:13-17

God commands the Israelites to keep the feasts when they enter the land of Canaan. He tells us to enjoy this feast, not by compulsion. Serving God is not a duty or burden. The life of faith is a life full of thanksgiving and joy while enjoying God.

We should not be burdened or forced to celebrate Thanksgiving next week, but should be greeted with gratitude and joy. The season is an opportunity to deepen our relationship with God. In addition, it is an opportunity to share love and blessings with neighbors.

There are three feasts that the Bible says to keep. The Feast of Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, and Tabernacles. There are the Passover to commemorate the salvation from Egypt, the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost) after the spring harvest, and the Feast of Tabernacles (Thanksgiving) after the autumn harvest. The spirit of these feasts is to give thanks to God.

What are we to give thanks through these words?

1. We must give thanks for being saved.

In the Bible, to keep the Passover is to give thanks for being saved by God's grace and keep the feast. Israel was saved by God's help and power without going to war in Egypt. For all the Egyptians the firstborn died or the firstborn of the beast died, but for the Israelites  There was no harm. And I was saved in Egypt.

  We too were bound by the devil and lived in pain. They lived as enemies with God. But we are set free because Jesus died on the cross for us. And he made us children unconditionally and made us call God our Father. He has given us heaven so that we can live with Jesus forever. He has given you life to live forever without cost. It is grace and reason to be thankful that we are here. There is nothing that God likes about me, but I am so thankful that He saved me as a child. How can I thank you?". . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Those who do not know this thanks cannot thank God.

Gratitude that something is going well, thank you for earning some money, and thank you for being healthy are small thanksgivings. The greater gratitude is to be thankful for being saved. Aren't we more grateful and grateful to the one who spared our mortal lives than the one who gave us clothes or food? It is true faith when there is faith that is moved by being saved. It is a living faith. If there are people who have lost this faith, I hope the Holy Spirit will come and touch our hearts. The Passover is a season to remind us not to lose the feeling of being saved. When all else is gone, our salvation is eternal. It won't be stolen.

2. We need to appreciate food, clothing and shelter.

The Feast of Weeks, the Feast of Harvest, is the feast to give thanks to God for giving us our daily bread. How many people in this world are starving for lack of food? But we should give thanks to God for not running out of food for us in due season. It is by God's grace that we are now able to taste food that even kings could not taste before. We have to thank God for giving our table so much food waste that it becomes a problem.

There are many people who live without a home. In France, a homeless man was sitting on the side of the road. It was rainy weather. But there was a dog next to him, and he had an umbrella over it. These people say that they always take their dog with them even if they don't have anything else. It is said that people give dongsang to dogs because they feel sorry for them. There were people who didn't even have dogs. Even when there are people with nowhere to go, we should be grateful if we have a home and a home.

3. Remember the difficult times and give thanks.

For the Feast of Tabernacles, they went to the fields and mountains, cut olive branches or palm branches, and made a temporary house with tree branches in their yard, on the roof, or outdoors. It is a season to go inside and remember the past of living in the desert with family for a week and give thanks for God's protection, guidance, and help.

The feast of thanksgiving is a season to remember the past and how God made us pass the times of hardship and adversity that we lived in a world like the wilderness. We live with the assurance that the God who has helped and guided us so far will continue to do so in the future.

Do you want our life to be as colorful and beautiful as a rose? Let's remember that roses have many thorns. Just as a person who endures the pain of being pierced by a thorn will have a rose, one who overcomes hardship will experience the grace of God.

4. We should be thankful for the gifts we give from our hearts.

God tells us to offer voluntary gifts according to our strength when we keep the feasts. Gratitude cannot be expressed in words alone. He tells us to give thanks with the gift of all our hearts. Because where your material is, your heart is also. That is why God told us not to come out empty-handed in order to receive thanksgiving from our hearts. If you bring a gift in your hand, you can even give your heart to God because of the gift.

The gift we are offering next week should also be like this. Think of God's grace. Grace for salvation, grace for food, grace for family, grace for answered prayer, etc.  He has already given this kind of thanks before, but he is unhappy if he gives thanks in a humble or formal way, especially on Thanksgiving. When you prepare and give a gift that is full of your heart, God accepts that gift as worship and blesses you in all things.

Let's give thanks for being saved. Let's thank you for giving us food, clothing and shelter. Let's thank God for helping, protecting, and guiding us in difficult times. Let's do our best to express our gratitude with material things. The Bible tells us to be thankful. Gratitude does not start with receiving, but realizing grace is the beginning of gratitude.
