Sermons for Preaching

Relying on the words of the title, go deep!

Rely on the Word and go deep!

Text/ Luke 5:1-11

1. Introduction

July is the rainy season. During the day, it is stuffy and stuffy, and at night, it is a tropical phenomenon, so there are many days when I have trouble sleeping at night. It is the season to miss the blue waves and the roaring sea. Today's text is the first meeting between Jesus and his disciples (Peter-James-John) on the Sea of Galilee. First, let's read the central passage of the text.

*When Jesus had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Go out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." Simon answered and said, "Teacher, we have labored all night and caught nothing. At your word I will let down the nets." They caught so many that the nets were torn... When Simon Peter saw this, he fell down on Jesus' knees and said, "Leave me, Lord, for I am a sinner..." Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid, for you will catch people." 5:1-11)

2. 呑舟之魚 在深海 (Tanjieo Re-deep Sea: Big fish live in the big sea)

It wasn't the shallow waters that caught the 1500-pound (680 kg) giant tuna caught by Santiago in Hemingway's The oldman and the sea, it was the wide, deep waters.

Small fish live in shallow water, and large fish live in deep water. It is said in the 明心寶鑑 (Myeongsimbogam) that there are no fish. The shallow water is clear enough that you can see clearly into the water. There is nowhere to hide. Deep water is dark blue and dark, so it is impossible to fathom what is in the water. The water is so deep that big fish can live.

So are people. People are too smart and if you measure accurately and closely, people won't gather. Pretending that people don't even know. You need to be patient with what you have to say and have a subtle bar for people to gather. I think the same is the case with the words in the Bible that say, “Do not be overly righteous and do not be overly wise, how can you cause yourselves to perish?” (Ecclesiastes 7:16).

That's right. In order for a person to attain greatness-great wisdom-great happiness, there must be deep interest in the three things: time-space, space, and human beings, like the wide and deep sea,-deep effort-deep training. .

3. Why is he told to go out into the deep and let down the nets to catch fish?

first. I went to Jeungdo, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do to attend the 77th class general meeting of Presbyterian Theological Seminary on July 5-6. Jeungdo is an island that joined the International Slow-City (it is no longer an island because of the bridge). It is the largest and best producer of solar salt in Korea. I heard at the salt museum, but the salt that is 3 years old is the best. Even the owner of Paldo Kimchi Jjigae says that it should be made with kimchi that is three years old. Masters of mugwort moxibustion say that three-year-old mugwort is the best. Why? Because of the deep taste. We call a person who is true without lies “real!” It is called. It is the sound of deep human taste.

So are the food and so are the people. Because shallow water - shallow knowledge - shallow personality - shallow prayer - shallow Bible study - shallow socializing etc. do not have a deep taste.

second. It is because you can meet big fish - great people - great wisdom - great power - and great grace when you go deep. We all know it's good to go deep. Nevertheless, most people get along in the shallows. Why? The deep is scary-dangerous-Can I get to the deep? Are my skills that good? I'm not going to be! And because he doesn't believe in himself.

Peter was no different from us. Even if Peter is afraid-dangerous-going, what point can he have? I did 半信半疑 (half-confidence). But he was different from us. What was different? Relying on Jesus' words, he went deep, lowered his net, and caught an astonishing number of fish. But Peter did not know that there would be so many fish that he had to call his companions. Here, Peter's attention was not focused on the fish, but on Jesus, who told him to go into the deep. At this time, Peter saw the world of another dimension. So Peter fell on his face and said, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinner!” That's what it said.

Today, each of us has our own depths. I want to go, but there is a deep place I cannot go because I am afraid - dangerous - and not confident. What's that deep? Where are you? Who is it? Today, Jesus speaks to us as well. Go into your depths! - Lower your nets! - Catch your fish!

third. Here, I hope that we can all sing the lyrics of hymn 302 with all our heart, will, and sincerity while checking the words of hymn 302 with our own eyes.

Section 3. Many people try to go to the big sea from the shallow waters, and when they see the small waves pounding, they get choked up and can't go. Section 4. Come on, go right away, go now. Go to that great graceful sea. Now, row your oar into the deep. To the ruined sea! Leaving the hill, set your boat on the shoal and row to your heart's content into the sea of grace of my Lord Jesus Emen! *
