▒▒▒ Psalm 119:49-56
Those of you who have raised children will make this promise to your child who wants you to buy jeans. He said to the child, “If you get an A this time, I will buy you the jeans you want.” So, on the day that the child receives an A, he has to buy jeans as promised. On the other hand, children have to study hard to get the jeans they want.
Likewise, a covenant relationship is established between God and us. This promise is made on the basis of trust between God and us, so we must keep it. What is clear is that even if we break our promises, God is faithful to keep His promises in any case. Joshua was able to occupy the land of Canaan because he believed in God's promise. Whenever the people of Israel were in a difficult situation, they said, “Call to me, and I will show you great and mighty things that you do not know.” Holding on to these promises, I prayed to God. And God answered their prayers. The thing to be thankful for is that God doesn't just promise once, he promises again. God will make Abraham a great nation, make his name great, and make him a source of blessings.” He promised in chapter 12 for the first time. And he continued to make the same promise in chapters 13, 15, and 17. In this way, God continues to give promises. Everyone, please believe that God is the object of our faith because He keeps His promises.
The Bible consists of 66 books and 1189 chapters. Psalm 119 is the longest of the 1189 chapters. Psalm 119:49 says, “Remember what you said to your servant. You have given me hope.” First, the psalmist said to God, “Remember what you said to your servant.” I beg you. The word spoken to the servant of the Lord means the Bible, the Word of God. And the Bible can also be called the Lord's promise. Because the Bible, the Word of God, is full of God's promises. Therefore, the Bible is made up of the Old Testament, that is, the Old Promise, and the New Testament, that is, the New Promise.
The words of the psalmist, “Remember your words to your servant,” indicate that the psalmist accepted God's word as his own. When we accept God's word as the word given to us today, we can receive grace. On the other hand, if you hear and accept the Word of God as the Word that is spoken to others other than yourself, the Word cannot give you grace. The apostle Paul viewed Timothy as his own son. So, when the apostle Paul was imprisoned in Rome, Timothy was very concerned about the apostle Paul. Then the Apostle Paul comforted Timothy, saying, “The heart that God has given us is not a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love and discipline.”
I also read the Bible all the time, and one day while I was reading the Bible to preach the Word, the Word came to my heart as if it were electricity. Those words are none other than “I am with you” in Joshua chapter 1. I will give you the land you tread No one can defeat you.” Then he said, “Be strong and courageous. Do not lean to the left or right, and look only to the Lord.” Those words became the promise of hope for me. Those words came to my mind, and so I, like the writer of Psalm 119, said, “Remember your promise to your servant. you can pray.
I hope you will fully believe in the word God gives you through the Bible today, the promise he made to me like the writer of Psalm 119. As you believe, promises come true.
