Title: The Centurion Who Obeyed the Word
Bible: Matthew 8:5-13
Starting Point of the Word>>
This time, we would like to share a message with the title of “The Centurion Who Obeyed the Word”.
Some of the characters in the Bible were praised for obeying Jesus.
Today, we would like to share God's grace through the obedience of the centurion, one of them.
The centurion in the text is also recorded in the words of Luke 7, and the centurion we looked at through the words of today's text and the words of Luke 7 is a man of love, obedience, and faith. , a person who can know that he was a man who feared the Lord.
Among them, at this time today, we would like to receive grace together by sharing the word about the fact that the centurion was a model of obedience.
The best model of obedience in the Bible could be Jesus.
Jesus' obedience was obedience to the word of God, doing his best to death.
Although Jesus is the Creator, he is the authority of glory in the original form of God. He gave up everything, took the form of a servant and became obedient even to death, glorifying God through perfect obedience, and as a substitute for our sins as a substitute for our salvation. You have completed it.
But today, this kind of Jesus through the centurion's faith. His obedience is said to be a model of obedience for many Christians.
We must check the following two things through the centurion's obedience today.
First, we need to check whether we are completely keeping the “do” command from the Lord.
According to 1 Corinthians 10:31,
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Says.
According to Revelation 2:10,
“Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
is speaking,
In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18,
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in everything”
I am speaking.
In addition, the Word records in detail the things we must do as saints.
What is important is how obedient you are to these words.
The next thing we need to check is whether we are obeying the “don’t” command.
“Do not take off your white robe, do not hate, do not grumble, do not complain, do not make idols or bow down, do not bear false witness, do not be greedy, do not be greedy, do not love money, do not harbor anger. , Abandon even the appearance of evil, do not go on the broad road, do not depend on a life that has a breath in your nose, do not live according to the lusts of the flesh'
You have to check whether you are obeying the things you should not do like the Word.
Starting Point of the Word>>
The Old Testament records about a general named Naaman.
According to 2 Kings 5:1 and below,
“Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of Syria, suffered from leprosy, and he was taken captive in Israel and served as a servant at Naaman’s house. This is it”, and the mother-in-law who heard the words spoke to Naaman, and Naaman went to Elisha of Israel.
When Naaman heard this, he came with horses and chariots and stood at the door of Elisha's house.
But Elisha did not see me and sent messengers to say,
“He said to them, “Go and wash yourself in the Jordan River seven times, and your flesh will remain clean.”
is to do
Hearing this, Naaman records that he was subjectively suspicious, saying, “I think he will come to me and stand, call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place to heal his leprosy.”
Even today, like Naaman, there are believers who must measure God's work with their own knowledge and thoughts before they obey.
Of course, Naaman did as Elisha said and healed him, but he did not obey the word first, but tried to do his own thoughts.
Today is the time when we need the faith of immediate obedience to the Word of God.
We see that the centurion's faith shown in today's text is a model of obedience that fully believes and follows the word and power of the Lord.
If we look at the words of verses 5-9 of the text,
“As Jesus was entering Capernaum, a centurion came and begged him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed and in great pain.” He said, “I will go and heal you. Please only speak the word, and my servant will be healed. I am a man under another man, and I also have soldiers under me. I say to one to go, and he goes; to another, to come, he comes and my servant, to do this, and he does.”
asked the Lord.
At this time, the Lord heard the centurion's words and said, "Truly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith in anyone in Israel."
Faith here means obedience, and he praised the centurion's perfect obedience.
Like Naaman, the commander of the Syrian army in the previous example, he had faith in complete obedience, rather than being obedient and calculating with his own thoughts.
There was no 'no' to him.
The Lord wants us to have this kind of faith today.
What was the result of having the faith of obedience like this? First, looking at the words of verses 11-12,
“And I tell you, many will come from east and west to sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, but the native descendants of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness, where they will weep and grind their teeth.”
is recorded.
This means that today the centurion's obedience in faith made him a partaker of the congregation of the righteous.
Like a large number of Jews, Pharisees, and scribes who had already believed, those who believed first but did not possess complete faith were in groups of obedient faith such as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and in the congregation of the righteous who wore the crown of glorious life. While there are those who cannot lift up, weep and grind their teeth, and live forever as shameful losers in life, the centurion later believed, but would join a group of obedient believers like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, a congregation of the righteous who wore the crown of glorious life. that you said
The following is the history of the healing of the servant's disease.
If we look at verse 13 of the text,
“Jesus said to the centurion, “Go, let it be as you have believed.” And immediately the servant was healed.”
You said.
Because of the centurion's obedience, his servant was healed from illness.
At the end of the speech>>
Organize your words.
I hope that we who are saints today also realize that we should be a model of obedience for this age and for our descendants.
Our lives of faith and obedience must become a life that can influence our descendants, the saints, and our families.
Like the centurion appearing in today's text, I ask in the name of the Lord that I may have a beautiful life that obeys the Lord's word in the conditions and circumstances of life given to me.
Obedience is the power that moves the heart of God and moves the throne.
The Lord blesses all of you who experience the great grace of God by obedience in our lives today.
