The God of Comfort!

Contents

God of Comfort (Isaiah 40:1-11)

God is a God of comfort.

Consolation refers to the act of stroking one's heart to relieve suffering, rejoicing the mind, and providing refreshment. We need this comfort in our lives. Because no one is free from the heavy burdens of life.

There is the hardship of having to eat and live, and even if you have abundant material, you suffer from worries and worries, loneliness and emptiness for various reasons. We're used to words like depression and suicide. However, those who really need comfort are not God who is the source of comfort, but money, fame, knowledge and authority, pleasure and success, etc., trying to get satisfaction from the things of the world.

Only light can defeat darkness. Even if you set up a facility in the dark, practice in it, or make a group to sing and dance, you cannot escape the darkness. A life darkened by sin and burdened by the burden of life can be comforted by the Triune God, who is the light, and can live a blessed life by solving problems.

In today's verse, God comforts us,

1. He comforts you in the covenant relationship. A faithful God comforts His chosen people anytime, anywhere.

Verse 1 says, 'Your God...my people...'. The God who made a covenant relationship is faithful to that promise.

[Isa 49:13] Sing, O heavens; Rejoice, O earth; Rejoice, O mountains; Sing for joy, For the LORD has comforted his people, and he will have mercy on his afflicted

[Isa 51:3] "I, the LORD, have comforted Zion in all her desolate places, and made her desert like Eden, and her wilderness like the garden of the LORD; rejoicing and rejoicing, thanksgiving, and the sound of singing will be in her midst."

(1 Tim 2:5) There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

(Hebrews 9:15) For this reason he is the Mediator of the new covenant, who died to atone for the sins committed in the first covenant, that those who were called might receive the promise of an eternal inheritance

2. He comforts you quickly. God is merciful, slow to anger and quick to comfort.

The word 'comfort' in verse 1 is repeated twice. It is an urgent order that must be fulfilled quickly.

[Isa 60:22] The little one will make a thousand, and the weak one will become a mighty nation, and in due time the LORD will do it quickly.

[Exodus 34:6] The LORD passed before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in kindness and truth.

[Luke 18:7-8] How much more will God not avenge his elect, who cry out day and night? Will he be patient with them? 8 I tell you, he will avenge them quickly. Will you see faith?

3. He gently comforts the heart by touching it. The meek Lord does not allow us to bear burdens that we can bear, and He is not harsh in our transformation.

In verse 2, he tells us to 'touch the heart'. He is a loving God who cares for our hearts.

[Matthew 11:29-30] Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your hearts, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

4. He comforts everyone. God does not turn away from the pain and tears of the weak and the poor, the widows and the orphans. There is no one who cannot be held in the arms of God.

Verse 2 says, 'Cry out'. Everyone must hear the gospel.

[Jon 1:2] Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.

[Jon 4:11] How much more shall I not spare in this great city of Nineveh, for there are more than one hundred and twenty thousand men who cannot distinguish between right and left, and there are many livestock.

5. He comforts us by forgiving our sins. Sin is the root of all unhappiness. Sin broke the relationship between God and man and brought death. That death made everyone live in fear. Through Jesus Christ, God forgives this sin and comforts people by freeing them from the burden and curse of sin.

Romans 8:1-2) So now there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus 2 for the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Let's look to the God of comfort every day!
