The God Who Turns Curses into Blessings
God who turns curses into blessings (Numbers 24:8-10)
There are many people who are severely cursed by their parents, friends, enemies, teachers, and pastors when they are young, fear for the rest of their lives, and suffer with those words in their hearts. Today, I would like to share grace by thinking about God who turns curses into blessings.
Before the Israelites entered Canaan, the people of Balak, the Moabites, and the Midianites were filled with sorrow as they camped out in the plains of Moab. Balak, king of Moab, decides that the nation of Israel must fight a spiritual battle, not with a sword or a spear, and sends a man to the prophet Balaam to pay a huge sum of money and ask for help to curse Israel. So Balaam came to Moab with the intention of cursing the Israelites, and the next day he went up to the high place of Baal and built an altar and opened its mouth, but strangely, instead of a curse, words of blessing came out (Numbers 23:8-9). The people took him to Mount Bisgah, high in sight, and asked for a curse, but this time, Balaam blessed instead of a curse. (Numbers 23:18-24) Finally, Balak took Balaam to the top of Mount Peor overlooking the wilderness and brought them to Israel. He asked for a curse against him, but in the end Balaam blessed Israel. (Numbers 24:3-9) King Balak was outraged by this. (Numbers 24:10)
So, what should I do if someone curses me and tries to trample me? In Psalm 109, David shows us a truly wonderful way. “I love, but they are against me, and I only pray.” David says, “I only pray.” David's prayer was to curse the enemy (vv. 6-20). God not only accepts our good things, but also receives our wastewater and the red ocher of wrath and sets them down in the deep sea. If we pray like this, he will change our prayers with a heart that can love the enemy. If you endure without telling all the pain inside, you become sick. If you tell people wrong, you will commit a sin. If you confess everything before God, He will accept you generously, touch you, comfort you, and give you peace that the world cannot give you. I bless you in the name of Jesus that you may restore God's comfort and blessings by praying to God.
