The Lord of Consolation
Contents, dear saints! Life is like a ship sailing through rough seas. Sometimes it encounters a tailwind, but often the boat encounters high waves and storms. Then our Lord will give you comfort and help.
First, the suffering of the disciples (Matthew 14:22-24).
The disciples are suffering because their boat is against the wind and the waves are swaying and they cannot move forward. Jesus went up the mountain to pray alone and was not with him. Disciples who are tired all day long are the night they need to rest. Adversity came to the disciples who wanted to quickly cross over and rest. He was on his way to Gennesaret at the command of Jesus. We must remember that difficulties come even when we work at the command of the Lord.
Second, the Lord came to us in pain (Matthew 14:25-27).
Jesus comes to the suffering disciples and helps them. After praying for a long time, Jesus did not come to the disciples until after 3 a.m., the fourth watch of the night. Even then, the disciples were suffering in the middle of the lake. Jesus approached them in a supernatural way. That is, you are walking on water. People look at these parts and say that the Bible is unscientific. But the Bible is parascientific, not unscientific. Jesus is said to have the power to transcend the laws of nature. The disciples did not even know that the gray object approaching them was Jesus, shouting and fearing that it was a ghost. We tend to be afraid when we encounter things we have never experienced before. Even the disciples could not have imagined that Jesus would walk on the water, and they made a commotion as a ghost.
Dear saint! Jesus rescues Peter from drowning. To reassure the turbulent disciples, he said, “I am not afraid.” When Peter asked if it was really Jesus, he asked that he also walk on the water. It would have been a disaster if Jesus hadn't stopped him immediately. Peter started with faith, but when he saw the situation, he was afraid and fell into unbelief. Have you ever made a mistake like Peter did? (Matthew 14:28-31) There is no difficulty in carrying out the Lord's commands. But let us remember that the Lord who loves and helps us is with us. -Amen-
