Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5)

A fifth grader of elementary school was chosen as ‘the most beautiful girl in the class’ and came home in a good mood. And after a while, when I was selected as ‘the most popular person in my class’, I came back home with even more joy. But a few days later, he returned home in a bad mood. When my mother asked what had happened, she replied that this time too, she received the most votes, and that it was to choose “the proudest person.”

The national motto of the United States was “We believe in God”, but now it has been changed to “I want my rights.” ‘Rights’ are seen as American, and whenever injustice is discovered, a new right is created to help its victims.

However, rights do not protect as much as those who have rights think they mean ‘protection’. As the legal philosopher Ronald Dworkin said, “Rights are a last resort. Rights give one group unlimited power and presuppose the sacrifice of all others.”

Nothing is as strong as softness, and softness is the real power. Just as honey can catch more insects than vinegar, people are more open to meekness than threat.

Someone raised a mule named “Kate”. Sometimes a father would entrust a mule to his son to do the work, and the mule would lie down and refuse to work. So, even if he threatened to get him to work, he would not budge, but when the father who ran to see his son in trouble and called “Kate” called him “Kate,” he got up and started working hard without getting angry or hitting him. Later, becoming a coach for players, he realized that even stubborn mules responded favorably to softness.

This is also true for humans. That's why Jesus said, "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth." For meekness does not mean weakness, it means controlled strength.

Benjamin Franklin: “What are my top priorities in my life?” As he asked his own questions and looked for answers, he set out 12 virtues that will rule his life. “Temperance, silence, order, determination, thrift, hard work, honesty, fairness, moderation, poverty, equanimity, and celibacy” were these virtues. The friend listened quietly and said, “Benjamin, you missed one most important thing.” When asked, “What is it?” he replied, “Humble.”

Franklin immediately added this thirteenth virtue and organized his life into a thirteen-week cycle. He decided to intensively practice one virtue each week, and at the age of 78 he looked back at how well he had practiced those virtues. He generally thought it was accomplished with great pride, but judged it was not as good as for 'humility', and said, "I've only done a lot of imitation of it." Humility is the greatest of all known virtues and character traits. But it is the most difficult to implement.

Someone asked Leonard Bernstein, the conductor of the New York Symphony, which part of the orchestra was the most difficult. The great conductor answered, without hesitation, “the second violin.” The reason is that everyone wants to sit in the first seat, not the second.

It is said that when two goats meet on a narrow bridge over a river, they instinctively teach one goat to lie down so that the other can pass, so that both goats can reach their destination.

Zig Ziegler said, "If you help others get what they want, you can have everything you want."

There are meditations that can be useful when you want to overestimate yourself. Fill one bucket with water and place your hand until your wrist is submerged. And, thinking about how great he is, he stirs the water. Then stop stirring and see what happens to the water. All traces of my hand are gone, and there is only still water.

Application: Make the people you deal with feel like they are important. And treat him like that.
