Luke 18:9~14 Those who humble themselves are exalted Theme: 14. Prayer 2006. 6. 18.

Introduction

: Through the parable of the Pharisees and the publicans, He is guiding the spirit required to pray and the spirit required to be saved.

1. Parable: Two men are praying in the temple (9-10)

2. Prayers of Religious People (11~12)

3. Sinner's Prayer (13)

4. Lesson: Justification (14)

1. Parable: Two men are praying in the temple (9-10)

One). It was given to three kinds of egocentric people. (9)

(1) There were people who believed in themselves.

* People who feel they are good enough to be perfect and have no need for others

* They think they have everything they need in their body and mind

* They have never felt that they really need God or anyone else because they have come through life on their own. If there is, it is extremely rare.

(1 Corinthians 8:2, 10:12, Proverbs 26:12, Isa 5:21, Hos 10:13,

(2) Those who consider themselves righteous (Luke 11:37-54, 15:25-32, Romans 2:17-29)

① People who feel they are very good before God as they are

* They say that when they face God, God will never reject them.

think. they are not doing well.

② Those who have a sensitive conscience and feel the need to do good as far as humanly possible.

* They do good to win God's favor.

They believe that the good deeds they do will make them good and righteous.

(3). There are people who despise others.

* “To despise” means to look down on something that is considered unimportant and invaluable.

* They are the good, the poor, the despondent, the unfortunate, the abandoned, the poor,

Shame on the undernourished, the homeless, and sinners with shame, ignorance, contempt, denunciation, and sarcasm.

2). Two men praying in the temple (10)

One was a Pharisee and was a religious person, and the other was a publican (public official).

① The two went to the most prominent place to pray, the temple, or the house of prayer.

* Both are seeking the face of God.

② The two went to pray to please God.

* Both seek God, receive Himself, and ask Him to be with you throughout your life.

(De 4:29)

2. Prayers of Religious People (11~12)

One). The religious man stood and prayed only “with himself.” (Standing posture is public prayer posture)

“I” and “I” his prayers secure personal values, i.e., his own self-affirmation and social approval.

It was useless except for what it was doing.

His prayer was an official prayer, and there was no true worship or personal interaction there.

(John 9:31, James 4:3, Psalm 66:18, Proverbs 1:28, 21:13, 28:9, Isaiah 1:15, 59:2, Mic 3:4)

2). The religious person thanked God for making him who he is today. (Luke 18:9)

① I thank God for preventing me from committing serious sins that I consider public and shameful.

② Everyone else says that he has fallen and has committed such a sin.

③ List the shameful public sins that he never fell into. (Extortion, injustice, adultery, publicans)

④ He listed the right actions he had taken. (Fast twice a week, tithe of income)

3. Sinner's Prayer (13)

One). The sinner was “standing at a distance.”

I was ashamed of my sins and embarrassed; He felt disconnected from God and man.

He was far away, but he truly worshiped God.

2). He felt he was not worthy of seeing God.

① He did not dare raise his eyes to the sky. (His heart turned upward, but his eyes downward...)

② He hit the chest. Why?

* His unworthiness caused his tension, emotion, and pressure to burst.

(Matthew 11:27, Mark 2:17, Hebrews 4:15-16, James 4:10, Psalm 34:18, 40:17, 51:2, 17, 79:9, Isaiah 57:15, 66:2 , Joel 2:13)

3). The publican asked for mercy

① The tax collector called himself a “sinner.”

* He not only hurt God more than anyone else, but he

was insulted That is why he is said to be a sinner worth more than anyone else.

* He had nothing to offer to God, nothing acceptable to God.

② The publican asked for mercy.

* He longed for God to remove judgment from him and to forgive him.

* He said that the only way he could be acceptable to God was to have mercy on him from God,

He knew that he was forgiving his sins.

(Luke 1:50, Titus 3:5, Ephesians 2:4-5, Mic 7:18)

4. Lesson: Justification (14)

The words of Jesus: A shameful sinner is a “righteous person” in the sight of God. Why?

One). Because that's what justification means.

① When a person admits his sin and unworthiness,

② It is asking God to have mercy.

A man is made righteous not because he is righteous, but because God considers him righteous. (Romans 4:22, 5:1, Mark 2:17, )

2). Because God does not listen to arrogant approaches. (Luke 14:11, Proverbs 29:23)

God establishes and strengthens the humble and those who humble themselves.
