Old Testament
1 The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
2 Let this month be the beginning of the month for you, the first month of the year.
3 Speak ye to all the congregation of Israel, saying, On the tenth day of this month, each of you shall take a lamb for each of his households.
4 If there are too few of them for the lamb, they shall take one with the neighbors of the house according to the number of people, and count your lambs according to how much each one can eat.
5 Your lambs shall be male without blemish, one year old, and shall be taken from sheep or goats.
6 They kept it until the eleventh day of the month, and at sunset the congregation of Israel slaughtered the sheep.
7 Put the blood on the doorposts and lintels on the left and right of the house where the sheep are to be eaten.
8 That night the meat shall be roasted over a fire and eaten with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
9 Do not eat it raw or boiled in water, but eat its head, legs, and intestines roasted over an open fire.
10 You shall not leave it until morning; what is left until morning shall be burned with fire.
11 You shall eat it in this way, with your belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand, and eat quickly; this is the Passover of the Lord.
12 I will go through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast, and I will judge all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.
14 You shall commemorate this day as a feast to the LORD, and you shall keep it as an everlasting ordinance from generation to generation.
new testament
8 Do not owe anyone except to love one another. He who loves others has fulfilled the law.
9 Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet.
10 Love does no evil to its neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
11 And ye know the time, that the hour has already come to awake from sleep, for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
12 The night is deep and the day is near; therefore let us put off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light
13 Be modest as in the daytime, do not dissipate or get drunk, do not be lewd or lewd, do not quarrel or envy.
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not seek the works of the flesh for lust
sermon
The biggest festival of the Jews is the Passover. This is the day that God saved them, so it is the most rejoicing and festival of the year. Why did God give the Jews the Feast of Passover?
1. To have abundant thanksgiving: The Passover was not a festival to celebrate one's own achievements. Remember and thank God for freeing them from slavery.
It was a season for God gives us feasts to remind us of His grace and to give thanks.
2. To give the love of the family: The key to the Passover was the Lamb. They gathered in their families and shared the lamb. This Lamb was a symbol of Jesus Christ, who gave Himself out of love to save us.
3. To give the joy of salvation: When the judgment of death came upon Egypt, God's people put the blood of the Lamb on the doorposts and entered the house and were saved. God said, “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.”
Now it's time to wake up from our sleep. Because the kingdom of God has already begun to come upon us. God, who has given us a kingdom, makes us not only cling to the joy of the earth, but give thanks for his grace, share love with our neighbors, and look forward to eternal salvation and rejoice.
