Wisdom from above
Title: Wisdom from above (James 3:17-18)
Hebitard (Building a House of Love): Former US President Carter volunteered at the Build a House of Love headquarters after retirement to build houses for homeless people around the world. He attended his hometown church during his presidency and was a teacher of the children's department. He worked hard for...
This man was dispatched as an envoy to the United States and contributed greatly to the release of the hostages. Carter is a wise man who obeyed the Word.
The Lord says If you lack wisdom, ask God. James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
We hope that you and I will seek wisdom from God and live a wise life.
So what is wisdom from above? The first is holiness. The text says, “The wisdom that is from above is first sanctified.”
The word holiness has the etymological meaning of being clean enough to come before God.
This is a person who is clean in sexual desire, honor desire, water bathing, etc. In that case, you can go boldly before God.
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I beseech you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
When we are sanctified, we can go forward with boldness. You will be offered holy living treasures.
1 Timothy 3:13 “Those who do well in the office of deacons gain great confidence in a good position and faith in Christ Jesus.”
Look at Moses. At God's call, he went boldly to the throne of God's grace, fasted on Mount Sinai for 40 days, and received the Ten Commandments. Indeed, Moses was sanctified and was able to approach God with boldness.
Look at David. Because you are sanctified before God, you can see yourself approaching God boldly.
On the day that David was delivered from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul, David went to God and spoke to the LORD with the words of this song, 18:1 “I love you, O LORD my strength. 2 The LORD is my rock. My fortress, my deliverer, my God, my rock, my shield, my horn of salvation, my stronghold.”
Psalm 150:1 Hallelujah, praise God in his sanctuary, praise him in the firmament of his power. 2 Praise him for his mighty deeds, praise him according to his exceeding greatness. If you are sanctified, you can boldly approach God. The wisdom from above is holiness.
Wisdom from above?
The second is peace. “The wisdom from above will be at peace next time”
Peace is Eirene in Greek.
Peace, the true wisdom, is the wisdom that makes the relationship between man and God and between man and man harmonious. In other words, this wisdom is the wisdom that creates right relationships and order. False wisdom discords and divides the relationship between God and man. False wisdom is Satan. The serpent made Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit, so Adam and Eve were ashamed and fled from God...
It also creates a destructive relationship between humans and humans and between humans and nature. After all, there is no peace in false wisdom. But true wisdom preserves peace, unites neighbors, and draws man closer to God.
Matthew 5:23 If you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift at the altar and go first, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
You are to be reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:20), and the Lord says that the first commandment is to love God, and the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:37-39) Text “ Peacemakers sow in peace and reap the fruit of righteousness.” Wisdom from above is peace.
3) Tolerance.
“The wisdom from above is tolerant” and tolerance refers to generosity or forgiveness.
True wisdom is wisdom in not blaming others with harsh words and actions. True wisdom does not vehemently insist on only one's own opinion unconditionally, ignoring the significance or importance of opinions that are contrary to one's own.
Also, we are not rude, arrogant, or callous in our dealings with others. Rather, he embraces the other person, knows how to show mercy, and is patient. And no matter how big of a mistake you make, if you ask for forgiveness, you forgive it. Philippians 4:5 “Let your generosity be made known to all, for the Lord is near” 1 Timothy 3:3 but tolerant, not contentious,
Wisdom from above is tolerance.
Let's seek wisdom from above. Holiness, peace, and generosity.
